It's hardly that clear cut, is it? It has been the case before.. But it doesn't mean Spurs should roll over for us. How are Spurs ever going to mount a challenge in 3-4 years if every summer they take a step backwards? You need the players to get there. Believe it or not.. not every team was founded from scratch as a "big boy". Teams had to work their way up. Spurs should only sell if that's what they want to do, and if they can make a better situation from it... Not just because it's the "nature of the game" Having said that - I'd still be happy if we bought Modric.

If he'd said one of his own players you'd all be calling him arrogant and crying your little eyes out. If he says another team's player then you accuse him of tapping them up. He has never said he's interested in Modric, wants to sign Modric etc, but it must be great being so paranoid.
Ferguson never said he was interested in Carrick and Berbatov yet the papers constantly said this was the case and, shockingly enough, it was. Now why would a Man Utd hating media make that up
They link us to dozens of players every season, if they were telling the truth we'd have squad of about 500 players by now and several of our current squad would have left years ago. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
But Modric is 100% staying (as the interview has shown)... So why are you even bothered by the press' stories? According to you guys Modric is a "rare-breed" of player - so why not just laugh the stories off?

When I mention "nature of the game" its called having a realistic view and understanding of what takes place, I can see from your profile that you're 18 so you will have a more ideal view but if you look around and take in what happens then clubs like man utd, barca, madrid get the players they want (if not first attempt, then the second) and this is because they can offer players the chance to achieve the best in the game. Clubs like us start to build teams, get players with huge potential and then they get ripped apart and we have to start again BUT player power is more powerful then anything and while Modric isn't the type of player to throw a hissy fit or sulk, if man utd or barca make a bid then i am 99.99% sure he will say he wants to go and he will be sold and that is just the nature of todays game. If we want to build a team then this summer Levy has to invest in signing real top quality and has to invest in paying the best wages, will that happen? I very much doubt. Instead we will attempt to sign "potential" or try to find another berbatov or modric and it takes time for them to settle when right now this spurs squad needs proven top class talent and the type of player we need has to be paid top class wages.
It's not the linking per se, it's how often and how long for In the cases of Carrick and Berbatov it went on for around a year despite all denials from Spurs. How many players are linked to a specific club for that long? And in the case of Modric (and a lesser extent Bale) the fact of signing new contracts and saying they want to stay is being ignored in favour of lies about how their future is uncertain and that they want to play for Man Utd What I get pissed off about is the clear agenda the press have in favour of the Big 4. When Real Madrid and Barcelona were reported as wanting Ronaldo and Fabregas the press were up in arms but there is no such outrage about players reported to be interesting the Big 4
He said Modric is a good player, that's it. The media try and stir it all up to sell a few more papers and people fall for it. Saying you think someone is a good player isn't tapping them up and Sir alex does not control the media ffs, stop being so damn paranoid.

I'm responding to the imbecile who wrote this article claiming that Sir Alex was tapping up Modric and using the media to do so, as well as a few other posters who seem to agree with his paranoia.
All the top managers and club use the media to their advantage which is why fans of some clubs get annoyed when it results in them losing a player but for me that just part and parcel of the game and our own Harry is someone that uses the media to his advantage so we can't really complain!

What Happened to Alan Shearer then? Enough Said Modric is the type of player who will give his all regardless... He's got years on his contract - why sell him unless you think it will move the club forward? You are on the verge of doing great things and you want to sell a key component You already have top quality in Modric - So why go and sell him? Why not sell Van Der Vaart and Bale while you're at it ... Modric has settled, to such such a degree that Europe's biggest teams want him. He's the type of player a "top" club needs ... and you want your club to sell him? Are you even a Spurs fan?

Exactly. A player/Manager makes a perfectly innocent comment about an opponent and the media stir it all up to try and gain more attention. Unfortunately idiots like the author of this thread fall for it.
