I so miss the early rounds of the FA Cup qualifiers. I played in a few and when you get to the first round proper, it gets really exciting to think you are only one lucky ball being drawn away from playing either a league team or a big team.
We're following FA Cup proceedings as well. To comment, just go to this link http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/225078-The-FA-Cup or just keep scrolling down until you find the Pompey board
The club committee have decided to allow Saints season ticket holders in (adults) for just £3 on production of their Season ticket at the turnstile on Saturday!
Off to watch Winchester v Mangotsfield instead. This is actually the third preliminary tie as Winchester previously beat New Arlesford away andf then Swindon Supermarine at home. The first match was a derby and I was bery surpsied by the atmosphere as fans from both teams mingled in with each other. It was funny seeing the swallows flying over the pitch too - by the time the final is played at Wembley, they would have flown over to Africa and back again! New Alresford must have one of the best settings for a football pitch in Hampshire.
Fat Le Tiss Alresford play at the sports ground which is opposite Perrins School on the left hand side along the main drag in from Winchester. I think the building looks like it was built in the 90's but a new 120 seater stand is about to be built. From what I understand, Arlesford won a number of cups last season and finished up in the Wessex League. They were quite stubborn in the forst half but Winchester seem to be able to soak up a lot of pressure without conceding (3 goals conced so far this season due to a very solid defence and the brilliant Ross Casey in goal - a former Totton player.) Winchester are playing some exceptional football at the moment with Chris Flood (ex-QPR / Brentford) leading the line in swahsbuckling fashion and Russell Cook tearing the opposition apart. After the dross served up last season, it is a massive difference watching the current team play and hopefully we can overtake Sholing at the top of the league. Which team did you play for, by the way?
When I played at Alresford, it was for Alton (Bass), but played for most non-league teams from Bognor to Fareham, including Worthing, Havant, Waterlooville and Newport IOW.
Looks like a nice fresh day for a local derby in the FA Cup ! Hope everyone who attends today enjoys the match. Up the Boatmen!
Sholing FC 4 AFC Totton 0 A blistering first half performance by the Boatmen sewed up a FA cup shock within the first 45 minutes. 7mins 1-0 : A corner cleared to Tyrone Bowers, who from 25 yards chests it down and volley's into the far bottom corner. 33mins 2-0 : After a flowing move down the left wing, Tyrone Bowers finds space on the right hand side of the box and dinks a perfect ball to the far post where Lee Wort ghosts in to side foot home from 8 yards. 40mins 3-0 : More powerful midfield play allows Lewis Fennemore to finish via the inside of the post from the edge of the area 45mins 4-0 : Lee Wort performs a Cryuff turn inside the box to leave two defenders for dead, allowing him to finish with ease. Second half Sholing kept total control of the game, barely allowing Totton a shot, whilst remaining dangerous on the break. Sholing's mean defence has now only conceded 6 goals in 12 games this season. In the end, a very comfortable victory and you'd have thought that Sholing were the club in the higher division. Draw for the FA Cup second qualifying round takes place on Monday at 1:30pm
It's a shame Totton are in such dire straits atm, so a Sholing win was more than likely. The club could barely put together a side this year and have god awful fiances, far cry from out own cup run in 2011 . All the best to Sholing in the next round
Yes, the leagues don't always reflect the relative strength of a club overall. Some clubs who have chased the dream or had their funding cut back from benefactors are in trouble, such as Totton & Winchester. Sholing volunteered to drop a division as travel expenses were too high in the league above, plus to focus attention on redeveloping the clubhouse & facilities. Thanks and good luck in the League.
