The lads around me sing 'one Stevie Harper'. I've heard a darts related one too (he's a big arrows man). I've not heard a goalie have a chant since we had that nutter Burridge on the team.

Career? What career is that then? The one where he spends more time picking splinters out of his arse than washing grass stains from his shorts? If there is a bigger case for a sportsperson with less ambition than Harper in the last 60 years I have yet to see it. He even admitted as much himself when he went to Hull in the summer. Like I said, seems like a canny bloke but I can't take his footballing career seriously at all as he hasn't had one worthy of discussing. I find his lack of professional ambition embarrassing when your lot and the local media call him a legend? He isn't.
Only played 157 games, but how many players will play double that and not have as much impact? He played well in nearly all of his games. Plus, it's not just his effect on the pitch, it's how well he's helped coach the younger keeper prospects that have come in. He coached the likes of Krul when he was 17 despite knowing that he'd be taking his spot. That's class.
Harper is shown a unreal lack of ambition. He is a quality keeper, I have no doubt, if he had played regular, he might of even been touted for England..but come on guys....He had zero interest in that. He gets a big wage of Newcastle and does precious little for it, other than being an understudy for others. If that isn't a lack of ambition i'm not sure what is. so I don't think he needs (not so much deserves) a testimonial..I guess he will be on the bench for that as well

No that's a pathetic attitude and the reason he has **** all to show on a 20 year 'career' of happily being the bridesmaid. For me he had the talent but it was wasted on the single most unambitious individual I've ever known in sport. He is a joke figure in my eyes and not to be taken seriously. Your lot may well love him but outside of NE1 he is a nobody.
If Harper was a Sunderland player for so long, you lot would be going on how he is a legend. It's stupid really, so many people complain about players not being loyal these days, yet when someone shows loyalty to one team in his career then he is; pathetic, unambitious etc.
