B Wallace, famous scottish freedom fighter. Not often known as Bill, admittedly.

I feel that with Shackleton in goal any campaign would end in heroic failure. I'd go for J.Cleese instead.

Relatively speaking, I like the combination of Newton and Brunel in midfield. Plenty of invention.

    I'd partner J. Lydon up front with J.Strummer - there'd be a natural understanding.

    W. Shakespeare is unlucky to be left out - but where would you play him?

It didn't work out for him in his team, Loves Labours. Not a good record. Never got his confidence after that.

Barnes Wallace, as in the bouncing bomb. Should prove useful in breaking up attacks.

Better bring in some reserves - A Hitchcock has presence in goal, and M Jagger to add some swagger to midfield.

After he spent his hour fretting on stage, he'd be substituted. He was nothing more than an Elizabethan Walcott.

    G Banks

    G Neville
    B Moore
    R Ferdinand
    A Cole

    S Matthews
    B Charlton
    P Gasgiogne
    J Barnes

    G Lineaker
    J Greaves

I never saw Greaves, Charlton, Banks, Matthews or Moore play during their careers but have seen them on tv and they were fantastic. The only one I am sorry not to put in is Dixie Dean but I have only read about him so found it hard to justify putting him in without seeing him.

    If it is players I've seen then it would be;

    Shilton

    G Neville
    R Ferdinand
    T Adams
    A Cole

    S Coppell
    G Hoddle
    P Gasgiogne
    J Barnes

    G Lineaker
    P Beardsley

I knew this had been done before!

I hear S.Hawking is cosmic, but he's useless in a penalty shout out.

L.Olivier would be on my bench. He can play a number of different roles.

S Hawking doesn't have the mobility he used to. On the other hand, D Bader can withstand any tackle the opposition throw at him.

Henry VIII as manager with Richard III as assistant. They wouldn't dare lose.

TE Lawrence, B.Montgomery, D. Livingstone, W.Raleigh, R.Scott & J.Cook to be drafted in for overseas games. With F.Nightingale on standby.
