â¦.Have a big couple of weeks coming up, they have already qualified for the premier league play offs, tomorrow night they have a top of the table clash at home against Edinburgh, the following night they again have top of the table clash with Somerset, the result of these 2 meetings will determine if they get "picks" in the play offs. The play offs are a little bit complicated so I have included a link to the league table & a summary of how the play offs work is below the table. http://www.speedwaygb.co/pltable13.php Next Thursday they have the 1st leg of the league cup final v Newcastle with the return leg at the end of the month. The Foxhall stadium has had a fair bit of money spent on it this year with the introduction of grandstands & improved spectator facilities, further investment & improvements on the way (all via Spedeworth), if you have nothing better to do over the next couple of Thursday evenings get yourself down there and give the Witches a look.
Great post rep! I used to go to a lot of meetings in my younger days when my Uncle the legendary John Louis was in his prime. For a local kid growing up in Ipswich in the 1970s we were spoilt for choice having one of the finest football teams and the finest Speedway team in the country! My how times change! I shall be cheering on the Witches though unfortunately I can't make it to any of the meetings coming up. I really hope that they make it back to where they belong in the elite league. At least that will restore a little lost pride!
I used to go and watch when I was a youngster in the mid 90's... used to love it as well, was such a great evening out, been meaning to take the missus to one soon as she's never been.. My parents used to be keen supporters and used to go a lot when they were younger, as did the whole family as my great uncle was riding for the witches back in the 70's & 80's (it wasn't John Louis before anyone draws any conclusions between mine & JWM's post)
I loved going to Foxhall stadium to see the witches and stock car races. Went to a monster truck show there too. As KoPR there are not many more enjoyable ways to spend an evening or weekend.
Back in those days I loved the Stocks and Super Stocks, Hot Rods and above all the Banger Racing. back then it was proper banger racing when the cars used to actually smash into each other unlike the pale shadow that we see now where health and safety has spoilt it! I remember watching Transit Vans towing caravans in demolition derbies it was bloody carnage but great fun!
