http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/9067385.Brighton_very_close_to_signing_Buckley/? Anyone else more concerned about Buckley going than DG?
No, AL4-Hornet, I'm not more concerned about that than I am Graham. I'd rather we kept Buckley, because I think, when he's on form, Buckley's a top quality winger. During his purple patch he was near unplayable at this level. However, he wasn't a permanent fixture in the side like Graham, nor was he consistent. Besides, I'm hopeful that a combination of Whichelow, Murray and Bryan can break through and help to soften the blow. If he is to go, we'd better do a better job of negotiating his exit than we did with Graham, particularly given that we're going to have to give a lot of the fee to Rochdale. P.S. Your tagline 'Don Cowie is wonderful!' has got me thinking: if he were to go (especially for a fee of a packet of pork scratchings...) I really would class that as a disaster.
The brighton local newspaper says the following, "Will Buckley is expected to sign for the Seagulls today in what is likely to be a club record deal." I have no idea how much that will be, around the million mark I would expect, so thats £4.5 million in all coming in. Surely we can get someone good from that and pay off some debts?! Disaster? No, not yet. Transfer window has just opened and we can do something in it in time. Plus - We get good loan players too. We were favourites to go down this year and did ok. I believe we'll be ok!
Dissapointing if true but £4.5mil is a good amount. They will have gone early so we can get some replacements. I'm sure Malky must be given at least £1mil of that to reinvest and try and find the next Danny Graham of the lower league. Plus we could use some of the money to get good loan players for next year and pay more wages than some other clubs?
I'm not so wooried about individual sales, it's more the pattern. DG and WB going...who else? MM, DC, JE. As I said else where, will the last person to leave please switch off the lights!!
Buckley is all but gone. Yes, i'm worried, but only because i think this is the beginning of a very disasterous summer.
Courage guys out of a bottle if necessary although it is very scary! If MM goes then I think we can hit the panic button!
Disapointed we are selling Buckley. Come the closing of the transfer window though (not the begining of the season) I think we will have traded well enough to challenge stronger than this last season.
Ok, here is my new optomistic prediction for the future, Buckely stays at watford as the transfer fee for DG is enough to keep the board ahppy, then danny graham goes on a poor run, which any1 who saw him at Carlisle will know is something he can do so he gets dropped from the swansea aquad and goes on loan to watford. Yes!
http://www.watfordfc.com/page/NewsDetail/0,,10400~2371997,00.html not a bad bit of business IMO. Bought for £239k, sold for £1m a year later net £771k, £155k to Rochdale. 4 of those every year, we'll be fine!
We've made a quick buck on Buckley.....but he's a player who can win games and is still improving (value wise and talent wise) so it would be very disappointing to lose him now. Surely with the sale of Graham we are not desperately in need of cash....it would be better to keep Buckley and if he does well next season sell him then for a larger amount.
done deal. Hey ho. Good luck Will Buckley. I'm sorry to see him go, but i'm surprised they've paid so much for him tbh. A loss for us though.
