I don't remember me saying he ever saved us but thats not to say that I may not have said it, I've always been quite confused by what really happened there. What I will say though is, we could've used Ken Bates a bit better and I disagreed with why the protests started. Once the huge number of fans started actively protesting and annoying him, then from there on in I never expected to get any further under him. It was time for change as soon as that happened because realistically there is no going back once there is such a divide. And plus I have thought the cycle of expectation shouldn't have been there the whole time we have been in the championship. You can't build a whole entire squad in the summer and then expect them to get promoted, especially with a change of manager as well. Each summer before this one we have brought in so many players, most of them terrible and puts us in a worse position, if we had a manager like BMD for the whole time who only brings in players he wants rather than random players who "might" be able to do a job we would be in a far better position right now.
Pfft, I'm not pretending I didn't defend him and I would still defend him in the same way from the same arguments. I think the way fans handled the situation was poorly misjudged. I stopped defending him, not because I thought any differently but I got bored of the same stuff every single thread.
