Well, I hope some guys took NUTS' advice and gave it a try because that was one unbelievable game. Absolutely brilliant. They'll have to do it all over again.
Ordinarily, as a second generation Ruislip based Kilkenny Cat, on the rare occassion we are not in the final, then I would support whoever Cork was playing in the final. However, my Rebel wife has a Godson who is on the fringes of the Cork panel and has now come on as sub a couple of occassions, but although he is in the final 31 squad preparing for the matches towards the final, he is not making it on to the 26 man match panel. So he continues to train hard and not touch the drink and so now that the game yesterday was a draw the agony is prolonged for him as he will be training again ahead of the reply in case any of the backs are injured and he makes it on to the bench for the replay. So I "have" to change my tune a little now if and when he plays in the Cork team, especially as at least one of his two brothers will probably be joining him on the panel at some point in the next 3-4 years.
Oi, I never said anything about future Cork v Kilkenny fixtures. Anyway you can blame your uncle for ensuring his 3 grandaughters are Rebels!!!
Shame it wasn't concluded on Sunday, there should have been extra time and penalties (?).....now 82000 fans have got to travel to Dublin for a 5pm throw in on saturday 28th and then could have trouble getting back home due to the late finish.....sounds like the GAA have taken advise from the FA on looking after the fans!!!!! Also big to the Waterford Minor Hurlers who won the Minor title on Sunday....first title since 1949 or so......
Thought Clare were the slightly stronger team throughout the match but goals can win games and almost did for Cork. Cork received a few soft frees from the ref but to even that he gave those extra few seconds at the end which in turn allowed Clare to get the replay. All in all a very enjoyable match but i fancy Clare in the replay even though i will be shouting for Cork.
Absolutely Tramore. Great to see counties like Waterford coming through and winning titles. Hurling badly needs a change of the old guard. Kilkenny, Cork & Tipperary have dominated the game so much to the detriment of promoting the game in the rest of the country. That's why I want Clare to win the replay. There are less than 10 counties that can win the Hurling AI. There are huge parts of the country where hurling simply is not played and that's not good for the game. Only 4 counties in Munster play hurling (except Kerry), Leinster 7 counties (except Kildare, Meath, Louth, Wicklow, Longford) Galway and Antrim, Down and Derry. That's 15 counties out of 32. Half the country doesn't really play the game or simply aren't very good. I know the likes of Kerry, Meath, Mayo etc. have inter-county teams but they are predominantly football counties and don't really promote the game in the county. . 5pm on a Saturday evening is a strange time for people travelling with young kids. I expect the tickets will be easier to get for the ordinary fans.
I know being from Kerry I'm not really qualified to talk about hurling but even with my little knowledge there was no slightly about it. You are being kind to Cork.
I hear ya Finglas and the GAA should be doing more...but maybe they are. They have really promoted the game at under age level in the capital but could really could do with an expansion of that effort. I would love to see it played at a more wider scale. How football is king i will never know, Its not nearly as skillful as hurling.....maybe i am being biased but i dont like Gaelic anymore. Its nothing on what it used to be.
