Yeah, I cycle to and from work and have my own exercise bike, and use the ones in the gym. Trouble is you have to do @ 50% as much work again to use up as many calories on a bike as you do running, but as I say middle-age is just taking its toll on my limbs. If I run four days in a row my groins are twatted.

Then again, when I was a club runner in my teens 30 years ago I weighed two stone lighter than I do now. I'm not fat by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't think I'll ever be under 10st again unless I ****ing fasted for the rest of my life, and that's not going to happen. All that said, my most enjoyable exercise, as I've bored everyone on here with before, is being able to take the dog for two, three hour walks without breaking sweat or getting fatigued. That makes all the exercise and gym work worth it.

Great stuff mate & there's some lovely places to spend many a long hour within a sensible distance of where you are as well eh.

I'm not a great lover of the gym either, walking is also my favourite form of exercise & favourite pastime (excluding football) We've had some fabulous days this summer, spent yesterday walking round Derwentwater it was fantastic.

I'm trying to get some timber off, as I'd gained 4st stone from my 'fighting' weight. I've got 20lb off & I want to get another 20 off, but like you I'm going to have to admit that some of it is unshiftable barring a David Blane box type existence I think.

  3. I don't do running. Know, most of you know I play footy three times a week so...

You don't need to run much if you know how to play the game and are good enough
