QPR midfielder reckons he could get dropped

KARL Henry won’t be surprised if he is dropped with all the options QPR now have in midfield.

The former Wolves player (pic) has started in all five unbeaten Championships matches so far. But the capture of Nico Kranjcar, Tom Carroll and retention of Joey Barton this week means life is somewhat crowded in the Hoops middle third.

Throw into the mix Junior Hoilett, Ali Faurlin, Samba Diakite, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Gary O’Neil, Jermaine Jenas – and even Hogan Ephraim, and something’s got to give.

But Henry claims he always expected a fight on his hands.

“We’ve got some really good central midfielders and I certainly expect rotation,” he explained.

But his missus was delighted when Rangers came back a second time after they lost out to Wolves in 2006.

Lucy Henry and in-laws are west Londoners, and were fingers crossed throughout July the deal to take Karl to Rangers for a reported £1m would go through.

He said: “I think she may have supported Chelsea in the past. But she supported me when we got married – and now of course, she’s QPR through and through.”

Henry would have been here already, but seven years ago Rs lost out to Wolves when his then club Stoke didn’t want to haggle over the fee.

He revealed: “I did a medical here (QPR), but because the fee would have gone to a tribunal, Stoke weren’t so keen, and in the end Mick McCarthy came in for me and took me to my hometown club.

“But clearly coming to QPR was meant to be all along.”

I personally think he's done enough to warrant a place in the next starting Xl. Why change a winning side?

I agree with you that Harry should be very wary of changing a winning side especially straight away, I think and hope he will introduce the new signings gradually. As for Henry, I don't think any of the new signings will compete directly for his place, but he may lose out if Harry wants to use a more ball playing, attacking midfield in some games.

Yes interesting, your right 9's why change a winning sides but if you've brought players in to improve the side you need to play them ? ie can you drop Hill who is probably the player of the season so far from LB but whats the point of having Assou if your not going to play him....

I can't wait to see the next line up, so many options but also the need not to upset a winning formula, I guess if he changes the formation it will be easier for Harry to change the players especially the midfield, big decisions to be made.
 
Well he's not exactly positive, is he, eh? That's not exactly a winning attitude now, is it? <doh>
 
I think the way Henry as protected the back four is a big reason why we've had such a good start!

100% right as i have also said a few weeks ago ... for me first name on the sheet on current form. excellent player
 
Done well in the few games I've been to so far. Bit sloppy in possession sometimes (but aren't they all?) but generally performed his role well. Derry needed replacing really, and Henry's slotted into the role fine.

Interested to see the next line-up though.

I think he's positive but he also comes across as refreshingly honest and level headed .................... which is good to see.

Er, no, it isn't. <doh> He comes across as not really up for it, that he is OK if he is sat out.

He should just say that he will fight hard for his place. And that when he is picked to play, that he will give his 100%. Full stop. Nothing more needs to be said.

He does say he "claims he always expected a fight on his hands". Refreshingly honest rather than sulky prima donna! He has done the job required, he should start with the best of the winning team that has done so well so far. Down to the new boys to either get match fit (if needed) and win their place in the team on merit. Fear, however, that Harry has his 'pets' and they may just walk into the teAm. Guess we will find out next week, it will be interesting.
 
With the amount if games you have I play in the championship, plus injuries, suspensions and changes in formation to suit certain games, I'm sure he'll get a fair few games.

But at the moment I'm happy with the team the way that it is, I know it isn't pretty it in the championship, winning is all that matters. I'm sure Carroll and Niko will get their chances, but players can't expect to play every game no matter who they are.

I take your point about being happy with the team the way it is, but does that mean that you didn't want us to strengthen and would you start with the same team against Birmingham as started against Leeds?
 
I think Harry has bought in new players to give us much more variation rather than replacing players.

We now have the option of changing formations and syles with diffrent personell to suit our oppo or confuse them.

Henry will get games depending on who we are playing & how we are playing. Probably when we need to shut up shop and see games out. Or when it gets a bit physical.

He's had a good start so dont think he should worry too much. Just keep doing what he's doing and he'll be fine <ok>
