I know the Transfer Window isn't open yet (or at least I dont think it is) but does it ever play on anyone elses mind that we are not being strongly linked with players (excluding he ones that surface seemingly every close season - Howard, Stock, etc) Any kind of player coming in would be exciting right about now....
Transfer window is open. No it doesn't play on mind as I don't take much notice of press and internet gossip (lies).
Other than a rarity we normally do not sign players until preseason starts. I can't remember any actually. Now there's a one for the statisticians.
We won't get linked with players that much because the club are so quiet about it. We may get annoyed about not being kept up to date on situatuions but im sure there's a good reason for it..
It is some what annoying I agree, A small amount of articles in the main papers do carry a correct rumour/story which results in the player joining the said team. With saints this rarely happens anymore and I for one used to get quite excited by who we used to be linked with fact or fiction! But this is how we conduct our business now with Mr Cortese and he hasn't done anything wrong in my book so far so its a case of just waiting and dealing with it.
Dont be surprised at the lack of news NC plays threse very close to his chest and history tells us very little gets out in advance. Also I guess everyones on their holidays, although I think they can do deals now but the players registrations arent transferred until july. (I could be wrong?) but its always the same, nothing happens for weeks and weeks and then in the last few days before the window shuts they all go through. I guess that there is a lot of activity going on behind the scenes and a lot of deals probably reach stalemate and cant proceed unless someone moves, these then hold up other deals because someones waiting for the money from the first deal, then it becomes the first one to blink. As the time ticks down somenone eventually moves and the whole merry go round can start whirling.
The mediocre players desperate for a new club are being talked about at the moment but the real gems have gone on holiday knowing that when they come back fully refreshed they can focus on the business of getting a new club confident that their talent will be in demand. So just be patient. Add to that that we are bound to sign one or two players you have never even thought about we shall be OK. Any way Nigel and Cortese are on holiday and will not be back for a week or so. Let the Skates pick up the dregs we are looking to sign the cream.
It is interesting to note that despite the news that Puncheon wants away all those weeks ago. There does not seem any interest out there for him. Or is it just me. I fully expected to hear that puncheon had signed for someone by now. Blackpool can't be interested as they have signed a couple already but not Puncheon. Is his career coming to an end because of his stupidity?
But this is all part of the sadistic pleasure of being a football fan. The gossip, the rumours, the waiting, the no news from our club. I love it You can't change these exciting bits of the game..... you'll be wanting goal line technology next
No point signing someone before pre season, other teams buying people are on pre contract agreements probably anyway so wont officially sign until next month. Just wait until start of July then the transfers will commence.
i imagine that even now we might have done deals for a few players but you cant officially sign anyone currently under contract until july 1st so we wont be hearing anything for a while.
Maybe he's realised that he was acting like a petulant brat, accepted that Chamberlain is better than him and decided he wants to fight for his place? Doubt it, but he might be forced to if no-one will buy him.
What's the rush? I know it's boring with no news but it's not like the last 2 summers when we have needed at least 5/6 players in. Nigel and his team will have been looking at players for months and are bidding for them now I bet, only the best will do and all that...
