I'm pretty sure that's exactly what it was notso, and I don't blame him. Schalke are a pretty good team, I don't think either of the top clubs would have taken him because he's got a bit of a bad boy reputation, and chose to play for Ghana over Germany which doesn't help.
Schalke are pretty regularly placed in the Champions League spots in Germany. He'll be playing alongside some good players there, too. A step down from Milan, true, but a lot of clubs are. If he can play regularly without being racially abused, then I'm sure he'll feel it was a step up, in many ways.
On a side note, Sky just published the full squads for each Prem team. Check out Sig's middle name... Thor!!
He's been really unlucky with his finishing for us, though. The strike that he had against Tblisi that hit the underside of the bar at WHL and bounced out neatly summed it up, for me. He looked up in the sky and shook his head, as if to say, "What do I have to do to score?!"
He's clearly got decent technique, and he has been unlucky, he seemed to score some belters when at the Swans. Not sure his all round game offers enough though when compared with others in the squad, which is a shame because he seems to have a great work ethic.
I'm hoping that he'll use the opportunity that Capoue's injury will give him to get some games in the Europa League and League Cup and make a claim for a place in the side. Very different players, but I'd like to see us rotate virtually the whole side for those ties, which might see Holtby used in a deeper role and Sigurdsson played in behind Defoe or Adebayor. I don't think he'll be here next season if he doesn't have more of an impact in this campaign.
If Holtby is playing in the EL i want him at no10. I don't see the point in flogging the dead horse that is "Sig at no10". I'm not dissing Sig, but to me he clearly isn't a no10. While Holtby has the tenacity to be a CM we already have plenty of real CMs to cover those positions and he is a natural no10. For me its just a question of whether he or Eriksen establishes themselves as the no10 or if they share it.
They are still a CL club so it's more of a sideways move. I know Milan have the history but are they likely to win the CL this year, I doubt it. If he is happier in Germany then good luck to him. The point I was trying to make is that here is a player who wasn't 'good enough' for Spurs but easily good enough for more than one CL side, so don't write off Harry Kane yet, the kid certainly has talent, he now needs to serve his apprenticeship and learn how to apply that talent.
I'd have to agree with this, it doesn't matter who Sig plays behind, he's not that good there. First touch inconsistant, little vision other than whats blatant, not the strongest I don't think either, no threat in the air, so it only leaves his ability to get half a yard for a shot. He'll have a season where everything flies in, I doubt it'll be for us though, atm I can't see a role for him. If anyone asked you his best position what would you say? A midfielder who likes to cut in...is that it? He's no Eidur Gudjohnsen thats for sure.
I see the point your making, but staying with Boateng mine is this, they're CL this season based on last yrs team, today they sit 13th out of 18 having only won once in 4 games. http://www.sbnation.com/soccer/2013/8/7/4526620/bundesliga-2013-2014-season-preview-schalke-04 His ex manager was surprised too... http://www.teamtalk.com/news/7555/8...s-disappointed-with-former-coach-Jurgen-Klopp The other 3 didn't want him so its fair enough if his 'home' Germany is his only wish. Be interesting to see if he injects some life into them.
I had been a big supporter, but I actually didn't see why we didn't sell him. By my count he's third choice at 2-4 positions, and unlikely to get much game time. He has an excellent shot, a great work ethic, and is very tenacious, but doesn't have the playmaking ability of Eirksen or Holtby. He plays the Bale role for Iceland, and has had some great long range goals, especially one against Croatia. I get the feeling both he and our other Scandinavian would do best if handed a starting role; they're liable to lose confidence otherwise. That's not ideal on a team as stocked as Spurs are right now.
Yes, I thnk that is what I would say his best position is, strange. He started slowly last season but I thought it worked fairly well with bale. Sig has the ability to cover a few positions and was clever enough to do so when bale switched it up. Very good backup to have but to his credit I think he wants to play and may go in jan
Chelsea new boy Willian has told Tottenham: You were only just a back-up option. The Brazil midfielder, 25, appeared to be on the verge of a move to WHL last month after jetting in for a medical. But Chelsea nipped in at the last moment. Spurs were miffed but Willian said Chelsea were always in pole position. He said " I dreamed of wearing Chelsea's jersey and I will work with Mourinho who is the best manager and I will grow a lot with him". Thanks for your time Willian, you two faced berk. Now **** off.
Chelsea were always in pole position, even when they weren't bidding? Obviously not particularly knowledgeable about Formula 1, then...
Big spending Spurs? please log in to view this image Apparently not. Don't know where they got the figures from, though. Look about right, I think.
Yeah saw that too. What it is about Chelsea that attracts such ****ers? Bullet dodged if we were second choice for the mercenary. Luckily we've ended up with Eriksen instead, who said he would sign a new contract, if he didn't move this summer, he'd sign a new contract just to make sure Ajax got decent compensation for training him up. Classy guy
