I'd like some advice please. My contact's up on my mobile soon and I'm getting an upgrade. All I need a mobile for is making calls, sending texts, listening to music, reading (and sometimes posting on) my favourite QPR forum. As a matter of principle I refuse to consider a Samsung. Has anyone any advice on which makes and models I should look at?
Bit silly turning down the best phone on the market out of principal the Galaxy note 2 with the 3 out soon. Fantastic.
Looks like you will be getting an apple. Like some one has already said seems silly to not buying a Samsung product.

This little beauty will not do just about everything you want and fits snugly into your pocket. It has a special 'silent mode' ............ which comes into play when the battery goes flat after just a couple of hours. Special features for any avid photographer, include - camera with the ability not to be able to email or download images. Ringtones that either make you want to pull your hair out or put you to sleep and for a 'deal closer' .................. how about a 'text message' system that allows your fingers to go numb at the shortest of messages. Yes, this package caters for any non self respecting fashionable persons who are oblivious to what the current markets have in store. Gaz, the S4 is the best on the market at the moment although a lot of stores have reported them being returned for software faults. I have an I5 and whilst its a bit slower and not as good as the S4; it is a lot easier to use and does the basic things well. If your going on principle then you wont be getting an I phone either mate. I believe Sony have just launched a new model and i guess they dont use to much slave labour, othervise your looking at Errickson & Amstrads from the late 90's

Samsung Galaxy S4 (or S4 mini), HTC One and Iphone 5. Best three phones on the market today and each has its own strengths and weaknesses were compared with each of their two rivals. Just got my eldest an S4 Mini as an upgrade from her BB. She loves it.

Go for a nexus 4, they are incredibly cheap (but also feel quality) to buy so should cut your contract fees by more than 50% or do what a lot of people do. Buy the Phone for £200 and get a rolling contract for £10 a month. It works out far cheaper than paying £30+ a month. Avoid HTC is you like the quick updates. They stop updating their phones almost immediately after they are released. Id go for a samsung or Sony and also avoid a windows phone or iphone.
I chopped my iphone 4S in for a Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 OK it looks like a plasma screen tv but far far better to use than any iphone I've had
