Join the club mate! I'm bottom of all my leagues apart from the Fulhamish one, where I'm second from bottom! The annoying thing is, I'm in The Sun FF with work, and I'm top of that, I won it last year and I don't even put any thought into that team!

    Morning fanaticals,

Me? Lovin' it. Sent two of the boys out on a friendly (gettit!) last night. Shot up the table like the proverbial rarebit.

    Yaki da,

Joint 6th after GW1, I'll take that, especially as Lukaku dropped the ball big time. Need to transfer his ass outta there.

I got 63 points in week one, in comparison to the national average of 63 points. So, I am nationally average after week one.

Anyways, there is far more exciting news tonight. I am excited to announce the first cup competition of the season, which will commence next week in Game Week 3. I will confirm the first round draw next week once I have confirmed the participants. However as things stand, it looks like 22 teams will enter; this means ten teams would receive byes to the last 16 (and therefore be barred from receiving byes in the second knockout cup competition, the Alphabetti Spaghetti Bowl). I will also confirm the rules for our first cup this week.

However without further ado, I am proud to announce what I know everyone has been waiting for: the new sponsor of the Shield competition for the season 2013/14. And it is our very own Steve Sidwell, who replaces Luis Boa Morte. For those of you who don't recall the concept of the Shield, this is the competition where disciplinary shortcomings can actually help your team. Not only will indiscipline decide any ties, I will be adjusting a team's score by three points per yellow card (which nets with the automatic -1 for a yellow to a positive 2 points per yellow). For the only time in the season, Berba arguing with the ref or Boateng clattering into his opponents will actually benefit you.

So it's time to work out those final kinks in your teams this weeks, guys, for next week the Steve Sidwell Shield begins. Good luck, one and all!

Well of course you are, you're top of the league! :p

EDIT: I just noticed the game substituted in Riether for you, ahead of Luiz, which gained you 6 points. For shame, picking Luiz over Riether in the first place!

In my defence, Chelsea had 2 home matches and we were away in GW1. Even so, it was a tough decision!

For several years I have operated a strict no Chelsea policy in my team. Just saying.

Blimey Captain, now you're making me feel bad. Or is this an elaborate ploy to make me mess up my team so you can retain your crown?! I'm on to you Captain, I'm onto you...

    The Steve Sidwell Shield

I am delighted to announce the draw for our first knock-out competition: The Steve Sidwell Memorial Shield. Apologies for the slight delay, which is on account of me being flummoxed by the 4 day week.

    History

The original idea behind this competition was to partially invert the scoring system, with what is usually termed a negative (poor discipline) in fact becoming a positive for this competition. Sadly for anyone doing well in this competition, those cards will still rack up the negative points in the league!

The Shield was sponsored by Luis Boa Morte in previous seasons. It was last won by fulhamireland (Ciall Nonnolly's XI).

    Schedule

Rounds will take place over the next 5 game weeks (weeks 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7). There will then be a four game week break before the start of the main competition, The Cottage Cup.

Given that there are 22 league members eligible for this competition there will be ten byes, with the remaining 12 teams playing in the first round. As mentioned before, the teams that receive byes at this point will not be eligible for a bye in the last cup competition.

    Competition rules

In honour of our sponsor, there are some additional scoring rules for this competition. Firstly, extra points will be awarded for yellow & red cards. Three additional points will be awarded for a yellow and ten points will be awarded for a red. In the event that your captain receives a card, these extra points will also be doubled. However, only cards "earned" by your first eleven will add to your score. I will manually assess these at the conclusion of each game week; I'll try to be as accurate as possible, but please raise any challenges either with me or on this thread and they will be swiftly resolved.

In the event of drawn games, the tie breaker will be decided by which team loses the most points through red or yellow cards during the game week in question. Cards awarded to the whole 15 man squad will be counted, so even your subs bench could still put you through by virtue of indiscipline. The more points you lose, the better it is for you in a tie-break situation.

If teams are still level after cards are taken into account, points for red cards will take precedence. If still tied, the winners will be (in order): the team who scored the most goals in the game week, the team who scored the most assists, the team who scored the most clean sheets (defenders and goalkeepers only, not midfielders), the team who conceded the fewest goals (defenders and goalkeepers only). If still tied, a coin toss will decide.

    Draw

So here's the draw, which sadly has not been checked by the Captain's eldest son as in prior years. To be honest, you'll just have to trust me. I did however fix one competitor to a bye, being our defending champion fulhamireland.

Byes (who will now be ruled out of receiving byes in the other two tournaments):
Ciall Nonnolly's XI, Riley Stoke United, SBM Legion, FFC_Madness, Rodallega Bomb, Riverside Rovers, Louise's Legends, Stella Turtles, It's A Taarabt! & FantasyFootieClub

    First Round Draw:
    By The River v Legen-waitforit-dary
    Life of Pies v Billion$Babies
Fred's boys v West London Whites
Potters Bar v Enter the Frei
    Brad'sBelters v Tootif
Nic's team v Moves Like Dejagah

So good luck everyone and, in honour of our sponsor, may the most aggressive, ginger team win!

    Morning Deadliners,

Positive and Progressive weekend (well almost). Work in Progress; can see a Wilcard coming on.

See we've drawn one of the big boys in the Sidders thing. Just going to get Llewellyn or Hew or Bryn or what's their names to double check the rules and make sure my lads keep their eye off the ball.

    Calon Lan,

    Sparky Bellend

Up to 3rd this week! Interestingly, none of my players conceded goals this week, including Riether as he was subbed off before Newcastle's goal.

Congratulations to the teams winning through, especially Legen-waitforit-dary and Brad'sBelters who successfully overturned deficits through their indiscipline. Barkley, Fernandinho and van Persie were the definite stars of the round.

Round two will take place in gameweek four, which takes place after the international break. The draw for round two is as follows:

    Brad'sBelters v Stella Turtles
    Legen-waitforit-dary v FantasyFootieClub
    Ciall Nonnolly's XI v FFC_Madness
    Riverside Rovers v SBM Legion
    Louise's Legends v Nic's team
Rodallega Bomb v Riley Stoke United
    Billion$Babies v It's A Taarabt!
Fred's boys v Enter the Frei

Good luck everyone. Seems Fernandinho could yet be the star of this tournament! ;)

Goodness, that boy Barkley gets around.

Sorry about this Surly, but should one of the 'Brad'sBelters' be 'Ciall Nonnollly's XI'?

    Indeed, C58. Amended!

It was interesting doing the points to see the similarities in so many of the teams. For instance, the majority of teams have Riether at the back and the most popular captain is van Persie.
