New boy looking to contribute at both ends of the field. Ki Sung-Yueng is eager to make a good first impression having secured a season-long loan move to the Stadium of Light. The 24-year-old central midfielder has joined the Black Cats from Swansea and has already played more than 100 games in British football as well as winning 51 caps for his native South Korea. âIâm very pleased to join Sunderland,â he said. âI have heard a lot of good things about the club and I am looking forward to playing here.â Speaking after the signing was confirmed, head coach Paolo Di Canio cited Kiâs technical quality, ability to get forward and range of passing as key factors behind the move. The South Korean scored 11 goals during an 18-month spell at Celtic and says heâs comfortable getting stuck in at either end of the field. âMy strength is keeping the ball and getting it to the forwards; I like to join in the attack too,â he said. âIt doesnât really matter â I can go from defence to attack and maybe do both. I have a lot of confidence with that. âThe first game is very important for me and for the team as well.â Ki is one of 13 new arrivals at the Stadium of Light this summer, having sealed his loan moe in the build-up to transfer deadline day. He was a regular at Swansea last season, playing 38 games and picking up a Capital One Cup winnersâ medal. However, he has found opportunities harder to come by this season and was eager to grab the chance to go out on loan. With the Black Cats remodelling their squad over the summer, competition for places is high but Ki says such a challenge is one to be embraced. âI played many games last season and I think I did well â we won the cup and did well in the league,â he explained. âI want to play some games and show my quality to the people. âOf course, there always is competition and I think we need that otherwise the quality will drop. I enjoy competition.â
“My strength is keeping the ball and getting it to the forwards; I like to join in the attack too,” he said. Please be telling the truth..
Or please be allowed to!! Not that Paolo would stop that sort of thing like!! Would like to see him alongside Cabral against Arsenal next week - THink Larsson, Vuaghan and Gardner are not the sort of players we need in CM. If Borini and FLetcher are fit then having a midfield and attack of: -----------Cabral------Ki--------------- Johnson---------Borini----------Giaccherini ---------------Fletcher----------------- IF Borini is as good as certain quarters say he is (I have seen little of him and been uninspired but it is on limited views so will take the words of others over my own) and Fletcher can get in there then we have a decent side going forward - If Wes is injured still then defensively we will struggle as Roberge and Diakite have had trouble in previous games - Hopefully we'll just have to be sure to score one more than them!!
This. I thought he was best player last saturday. Not the greatest passer but as long as he can tackle and head a ball I am pretty satisfied.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EAdMcGm7ODs Have a butchers of this Ki video! His vision and passing ability is superb
Larsson, just the mention of that name makes me shudder. Mention it in the same sentence as centre midfield...............arrrrrgh! Surely PDC was just using him as a stop gap till we got a creative midfielder in (Ki) They wouldn't work well together I don't think.
I'd like to see Altidore and Fletch unleashed against Arsenal. If we go tentatively trying to stop them playing we will lose 1-0 over 90 mins. Far better we impose ourselves and I don't think their defenders will relish Jozys power and pace and Fletch scoring when he wants. We tried containment under ONeill and it failed. I hope PDC has more attacking plans as I'd rather lose going for the game than meekly trying to stop arsenal scoring.
thinking this myself, if our front two can start off strong ,we could cause an upset against a weak defense imo.
Exactly this. Top teams aren't untouchable especially away from home we definitely need to go for the three points
