Benali left? I assumed he just retired to run his curry house. Didn't think anyone else would have him. He was terrible.
Well, I could understand the commitment of Franny the player, but he wasn't that good either, so no I can't quite fathom why the hero worship was there. I've always suspected it was the herd instinct, that is, if so many people say he was a hero, nobody will debate it. Probably better the let sleeping dogs lie, and all that. See? I'm doing the same thing.
You mean you didn't appreciate how consistently he could slice a left foot pass down the wing and curl it into the East stand at The Dell? Benali is the perfect example for this thread. Not a good player, but Southampton through and through. You'd want him on your side in the trenches. Edit: I thought this was in the other thread ... oops
The love of Benali was more to do with him as a man...gave 100% and was Southampton through and through. Remember that when he played we didn't have a store of expensive players...any money was spent elsewhere not on his position. I know someone who wanted some tickets for an event for his testimonial and it was Benali himself who phoned back to sort it out. And I was there when Benali scored
But he was best known for this type of thing....
Ha. Good thread. My initial thought was Sad - Ekelund Glad - Speedie But thinking about it some more I can remember how gutted I was when Kevin Davies was sold (first time around). Also, I always tried to like Mark Hughes but he was such a **** to Le God it was hard to like him. Sooo glad when he left the club. Have wanted him to fail ever since (and he has!).
