It was ****ing hot in the clubhouse bar at the Mem if anyone from the club is reading this I think some sort of air conditioning is needed or at least open a ****ing window
Can I just say to you lot. Don't ever say you're a family club, from where I was sat in the Dolman you could see some of your fans charging the Williams stand, riot police brought in. Then you could see some off them rushing over the front of the stand to get to the fans in the east end. I'm not saying we are angels by any means and probably that showed on TV more, but all we've heard is how we are uncontrollable and you lot are placid family fans. By the way your keeper pulled of a fantastic save
Blah blah blah blah blah. Didn't you see your morons on the pitch at the end? But fair play, the best team on the night won
Read what I said mate properly. I said we were no angels as well, I said your lot was the ones during the game held back by riot police. I'm not looking to score points, hence I never mentioned the score, and praised your keeper who I thought had a good game and not many keepers would of saved those goals. And you forget he pulled of a good save from JET which went to Joe Bryan for the second goal.
I can barely read cos I've had around 8 pints but fair play Tone you were the better team. I don't think we should discuss the idiots, as let's face it, we're family men who don't get involved in that crap anymore. Just glad it was a good game
to be honest the tv didnt show what was going in our end from the angle of the camera. but what i did see was your fans! i couldnt believe how the stewards and police allowed your fans to be so close to the pitch on the dolman stand. from around 70 mins onwards there was your fans all along by the advertising boards literally in the faces of the rovers players who were trying to take a throw in. you could lip read the bad language and see the aggression. the players shouldnt be put in that position. you could tell that they were there ready to get on the pitch. the cost to both clubs for policing this game and where the hell were they when all that was going on? then at the end, pitch invasion for 2 reason. some did the invasion to celebrate running up to players like they just won promotion and some did the invasion purely to go to the rovers fans. i dont understand neither. jpt 1st round victory over a team in a lower league, i cant see why the celebrations would spill on to the pitch. if you were the lower league club then i would actually understand it. as for the invasion to get to rovers fans, i dont need to say anything. o'driscoll said it for me! the post reporting lots of trouble after the game with fighting. also reporting mini buses with rovers fans in was attacked by city fans outside the miners pub. i get the rivalry but i just dont get the hatred and violence and thats from both sides
i was disappointed and happy when half time came. disappointed that we didnt perform. we sat back and allowed you to have possession and allowed you to play your game. it should have been over by half time with your chances. happy that it was only 1-0 meaning we were still in the game. 2nd half we came out fighting and looked like we wanted it more. we kept the ball better. i thought norburn was excellent in the middle. the ball looked glued to his feet. thought he was our best player. we looked strong at the back and parkes and smith especially looked in total control. i was saying to the guys i was with that our best chance it set peices and we had several chances from set peices, free headers getting wasted. we got the goal from a set peice. we then looked the better side and looked more likely to score again and win the game. we can be proud of the 2nd half performance. we looked solid at the back, comfortable in midfield and trying darn hard up front. we had more chances and got more on target. we just didnt take our chances. especially norburns chance at the end. how did he miss that! 1st half was citys for sure. 2nd half was rovers. difference is quality of finishing. 2 good goals by city and we had a few chances where the shots were weak. must do better. please note, both goals for city i blame o'toole for letting JET go free to score the 1st and break away and shoot for the 2nd which was saved by mildenhall and city scored teh rebound. i believe if there was 5 more minutes we would have scored. we were getting closer and closer and city looked more nervous especially when they nearly scored an own goal! overall, play like we did in the 1st half and we will struggle as we played too defensive. go for it like we did in the 2nd and we could have a very successful season on our hands.
Can't argue with any of that. O'Toole snapped into the tackle in the 2nd half but was poor during the first 45 mins. We need a bit more confidence in front of goal, but that will come as most of our strikers have been on the treatment table and lack match fitness. Play like we did in the 2nd half and there's few teams that will beat us in L2
Harrison was good for you. Always looked like something was going to happen when he had the ball 9/10 times though he didn't have the help he needed
I thought he was dire first half. Did **** all when he had the ball. Second half much better and started to carry a threat. One thing I didn't know about the Teds - they're ****ing massive! A very tall team (Flint's about 8 ft isn't he?!) which negated Harrold's aerial threat. Overall, enjoyed the game and the atmosphere, but not the result !
If you watch JET week in week out Capt you won't blame O'Tit too much, he does that all the time but it's like a gliding motion which throws the opposing player for such a big lump. Baldock coming on unhinged your defence with him sniffing around which creates more space for JET. You done well in the second half, but first half I think the crowd got to your young players like John Ward said and they were so nervous. They will improve I tipped you lot for promotion, think you might still do it, but your youngsters will get you there in the end. The one thing that wounded me up was on the radio afterwards, one of your fans said the average age of your team was young, but take Harewood out of ours and the 2 replacements this week we have been playing with probably the same average age team.
i dont watch JET obviously but what i know about him i know he blows hot and cold and when he is man marked he dont like it and gets frustrated. we should have got in his face more but gave him way too much space. i didnt hear the radio. i was watching sky then building up the courage to come on here
Been gathering my thoughts....the shambles at the end had coloured all my thoughts about the game...................... * travelled on the coach. Apart from leaving half an hour late at 6.45pm journey was totally trouble free (mind you, there was a police escort all the way!) and parking was unhindered. Walking from the coach into the ground was fine, and getting into our end was done quickly. * great vocal support throughout from us. Lot of pointing and banter but you can't hear the rest of the ground from the Wedlock (not sure they can hear us either!) * our team got off to a slow start..perhaps a bit overawed. Great strike for their first goal, though perhaps he should have been closed down. * idiot from the Dolman in a light yellow tee shirt ran on to the pitch. Nothing done, just went back to his seat! He ran on the pitch at least twice more...still in the ground at the end! The stewarding at the front of the Dolman was almost non-existent. * some of our idiots tried a flanker on the Williams...lots of pushing and shoving. City fans in the Williams were doing a lot of provoking. * good to see youngsters from both sides making an impression. They have two good ones in Reid and Bryan; and Harrison and Lockyer and the others will have learnt a lot from last night. * in the second half we were so much better and deserved the equalizer. We got at them. * a second very good goal won it for them. On the night they shaded it but I wasn't disappointed as our lads gave a good account of themselves. * game played hard but fairly. Only 3 yellows. * end of the game was a disgrace. The apologists will say it was just pent up emotion; but if you saw the faces you will know that it was thuggish aggression...and it was about 3/400. Police horse was punched. There was no attempt by Rovers fans to go on the pitch. * huge pity that neither set of players could applaud the crowd. Our lads would have got a huge reception, and the City players deserved to have the chance too. * after all this the policing outside was weird. There was a whole stretch (50m?) behind the Williams where only the parked cars separated the two sets of fans. Anything could have kicked off. * coach journey back uneventful...just a few 'happy banker' signs from home fans................
