..... in my opinion. Until last year I've only ever been to Newcastle, in the home section, including the Rowell 4-1 and the play off semi's. I've always been 'on my guard' but have never been too scared despite being a loudmouthed idiot who can't shut up when we score. It's different at Boro where I've had some right scares. The worst was outside the away end at Ayresome Park in the late 70's or mebbe's early 80's. We arrived from Mansfield and couldn't get a pint anywhere so arrived at the ground before the gates opened. There were quite a few Sunderland but the word got round and Boro started turning up. As was always the case at Boro the polis were 'homers' and delayed the opening of the turnstiles until we were totally outnumbered. Just as we thought Boro were building themselves up to a charge there was a big noise at the top of the street which was quite long. This stopped the Boro in their tracks and gave us a bit of time. The noise grew louder and we could hear a gang singing, "Scared of nowt, we dare dee owt," etc. As they got nearer they spotted Boro and, without a word, just launched into them and scattered them. We, of course 'bravely' joined in and ran them down the street. The polis just watched. So, the point of this is twofold, does anyone know who the 'scared of nowt lads' were and does anyone else agree that Newcastle is a tea party compared to going to Boro?
I've been to Newcastle and boro together with many other grounds and never encounterd or felt worried for my safety
I once got my scarf snatched off me of a Boro fan whilst leaving Ayresome Park, and I chased after the culptrit, put him on the deck and then got smacked across the head off a copper for my troubles..Happy days eh.. PS..I got the scarf back though..

They still do now, Boro is as rough a place as they come! Most of the lads have banning orders now etc though.
1985 Chelsea league cup semi 2nd leg, (arrived there by coach late, anyone else on that coach !) 1-0 down thinking oh not one of those nights please, then their supporters starting throwing seats every where and thinking this could be curtains for us !. but luckily we won 3-2 and no trouble after although I had the tom titts coming back for about 100 miles !, and we never stopped. also that year 1/1/85 Newcastle away we lost 3-1 kept in half an hour after the game as well, that May was a disaster in my life, Hysel, Bradford fire, 0-4 against Villa, 3 days before our dog was knocked down and killed, led against Ipswich lost last game of the season. Only away match at Boro I went to was 0-3, the days when you were bunged to the far right end side of the ground so you could not be seen on SHOOT (George taylor) T V highlights show. Norwich league cup final also attended (0-1) and was not let in at the Chelsea league game a week later at Roker park, because of the all ticket rule !. That was a terrible year as well as 1991,1997 and 2003. Lets hope for a better 2014.
The second leg at Chelsea was one of the best nights I've ever had. Chair & coin throwing & got my right eye cut open by a ten bob bit. Still got the scar.
To be fair even Boro wouldn't attack a man in a bobble hat carrying a flask and a tartan rug. I take it you weren't in the coach convoy that Boro attacked with bricks and bottles or the convoy back to Central Station last season.
As a kid always had bother at Boro(without looking for it) bricks through bus windows, chased around the town (haha, fcking town) chased out of the tow.....haha. Boro and Leeds for that matter.
That's my point, it was always Boro looking for it. I was waiting for a bus after a pre-season match, in the mid 70's and they were walking up and down the queue asking people 'trick' questions.
Ayresome ****hole in the 80's was a ****ing nightmare place and far worse than anything I encountered at Sid James. The old den AND the new den are hideous areas too.
When Millwall played at the old Den on the Isle Of Dogs it was a ****ing great place to go. One of my old marra's was a massive West Ham fan & I used to love going to watch them play each other.
Very intimidating area though Billy. Back in the 80's/90's. when I first went to the old den, the place was like Beirut. I've got a very good mate and a west ham fan and he hates Millwall with a passion.
Went to the old Den several times back when our Hummel away strip was blue. Reckon it saved me from a kicking Horrible place though. A black mate of mine lives about half a mile away and pointed out the pubs where he couldn't go and the ones where he didn't recommend we go (not being brothers). Never had problems at the new place as the policing was so tight and the home crowd got let out ages before we did.
I know about 6 Frontline lads the youngests in his mid 30's the oldests late 40's. theyre real hard lads, but theyve got a 5 mile radius ban from all Boro home matches and have to hand their passports in every England match. The Cops have it pretty sussed nowadays. Boro have a new Youth firm, but theyre not upto much!
