Man Utd are going through a massive transition period - not only are they replacing Fergie but also David Gill. Just as we experienced with Roy, Kenny and Brendan, as well as Ayre, it'll be tough but they'll recover as long as they learn from their mistakes. What we must now do is capitalise on this transition period and close the gap as much as possible before they re-stabilise.
Sorry dave, but that side was nowhere near "past its sell-by-date". It had a couple of players (Hughes and Dublin) who were getting on and not at title winning level and a couple of others (Ince, Sharpe and Kanchelskis) who were letting their egos get out of control. But the core of players who strolled to the double in 94 (Schmeichel, Bruce, Irwin, Pallister, Cantona, Giggs and Keane) were the same ones who won the double again in 96. The kids were in no way a gamble, expect in the outdated "you'll never win anything" thinking of the time. If they are old enough, they are good enough, and Neville, Scholes, Butt and Beckham all proved they were good enough in the 94/95 season. I do agree that the myth of "the kids" has gotten overblown after all these years. Ultimately, Utd had a top quality side back then, more than capable of winning the league but with a few important players who weren't pulling their weight any more. All SAF did was replace those players with new players, just the same as any manager would. The best quality replacement players just happened to be almost all relatively young, which back then was largely unheard of. Nowadays no one would bat an eyelid if a club promoted four or five 20 and 21 year olds to the first team, provided they were performing at the required level. I think you'll find some Utd fans have been complaining for years now! They complained when we didn't get Ronaldinho, Essien, Robben, Ozil, Sneijder, Sahin etc etc. Some even complained when we got RVP as he was old and wasn't a central midfielder! It's the nature of success to breed higher expectations, the only difference this season is that fans see Moyes and Woodward as a softer target for their complaints.
I would have expected no less from a response from you. Your view of what was and what happened is what it is - a view. It is neither totally right or totally wrong. The real truth lies somewhere between the 2. However, you are totally wrong when you say that introducing the Kids - en masse was not a major risk.
Good contradiction dave Introducing the kids was no more a risk than introducing three or four players that had been purchased on the market. In fact, arguably less of a risk as the kids had already proved they were up to the task in the previous season, and it was pre transfer window so we could still have bought players for any of the kids if we needed to. Ultimately, we had four players who were better than anything available on the market at the time, and better than the players they replaced. It would have been more of a risk to buy inferior older players than it was to play the younger, better players.

It's possible, but it's highly unlikely to happen, as that squad are a squad of winners & Moyes arrival won't turn them into a midtable outfit.

He did indeed, but I think it'll take more than a season for that mindset to evaporate. Fellaini's nearly 26. Despite their bullshit leaks to the press today, aimed solely at saving face! The paid £27.5m for him, £4m more than his buyout clause.
I'm not arguing here just for the hell of it. Under Moyes and having lost Ferguson I honestly think that the confidence (fear even) that drove them on is missing.
Ferguson gave that side an extra couple of %, merely by his presence imo Dave. So yes, that's gone, but the 'fall' won't be massive, as they're still a very good side, so whilst I don't think they'll win it, they won't die on their arse either.
