So....the deal was pulled at 9:50 while we were all sat like idiots pressing refresh on twitter and sky sports feeds for the next hour. B*stards.
"Clarke now has an abundance of attacking options" So why the **** did he need LuKaku then? If I had a cat, I would kick it.

If Bruce rates him I don't see why not. With six months on his contract we shouldn't have to pay so much - unless we are still desperate!
I think we'll probably get him in Jan for about half what we would have paid, unless West Brom are the bottom of the table and they think they risk shooting themselves in the foot.
A lot of water can pass under the bridge in 4 months. Other players might become available, we might find Gedo scores a hatful (cough!), we might be adrift at the bottom. If we are are still in the race for survival, I think we will have a go, but who's to say someone else won't come in with a bid now it's known he is surplus to requirements.
If he's in the last year of his contract then £6.5m is a hell of a lot to pay. As OLM said, I think we'll try again in January for a lesser fee.
In sure he'll be quite happy, he'll have known the score regarding when/if the deal goes through, he's a professional and I'm sure he'll be more than happy to carry on doing his job as normal when he returns from International duty. I think what happens over the next 4/5 months will determine what happens with Shane Long.
I expect we'll try again in January. He's exactly what we need and I see why we were willing to spend the cash. However more clubs will probably come sniffing now so there will be a bit of competition. However he'll have less time on his contract and hopefully will remain unsettled which will drive his price down. We can also hope that after meeting Bruce and pretty much agreeing a deal he has a little soft spot for us which should put us in a good position. However if he isn't playing between now and then it might be wiser to luck in the championship for an in form striker?
You'd be amazed at how the offer of an extra 10 grand a week and a further couple of years on you contract length will change your outlook on things! Money talks and the rest is nowhere!
