"I want to assure all Arsenal fans that I will give everything I have to contribute," he said in a statement.

Bendtner, who is recovering from a broken wrist , was set to leave Emirates Stadium on transfer deadline day after nine years at the club and has admitted being "very disappointed" a move did not materialise.

"It's no secret that Arsenal and myself had agreed that I could leave the club during the 2013 summer transfer window subject to an agreement between all parties," he said.

"An agreement had been reached with more than one club, but as Arsenal were unable to secure the services of another striker they reserved their right to not sanction any deal.

"I was looking forward to a new challenge, with a new club and a fresh start in English football."

But he added: "Many things have been said about my where my future lies after many years at Arsenal. The truth is I just want to play football which is when I'm happiest and Arsenal is a fantastic environment for any professional to apply their trade.

"Following positive talks with the manager, I am looking forward to working hard to regain full fitness and doing my very best to help the team and the manager fulfil our objectives and ambitions this season."

How do you feel about Bendy? Is he welcome back into the fold? Is he needed in the team / squad? Any idea when he'll be available for selection?
He almost went to Crystal Palace, and now suddenly he's 2nd choice striker at a Top 4 club. This is his last chance to make a name for himself as a top striker - can he do it?

I've already said on another thread that he needs to knuckle down and take this chance that he's been given.
On the subject of him being welcomed back into the fold,as far as i'm concerned whilst he wears the shirt i'll give him my 100% support.
I'd just like to say that I think you've made a good attempt to start a decent debate here.I hope that others wont just turn it into a Bendtner is ****e thread

As far as i'm concerned he's a complete waste of time and space, and i'd rather use Akpom than him.

I think he's let too many down to be risked in the shirt again, fans really do not want him at the club and he's proved for 3 years his driver is money making his comments in todays interview farcical.

What I will say is when I saw him 3 years ago he worked harder off the ball than any Arsenal forward I can remember, his workrate really impressed me and his international record confirms he has talent, it's just a question of whether his head's in the right place and that's no gimme.
That said Ozil could be brilliant for him....

He has a year left. It's in his best interest to take any possible opportunity to impress suitors as after this season he will be a free agent. I will still support him if he wears the Arsenal shirt but he has made his own situation pretty difficult.

I agree with you totally. It has to be said that he has played well for us in certain games and has scored some important goals
I know it's a cliché but he really is drinking in the last chance saloon

I dont want this guy anywhere near our squad.

Thoroughly dislike him. Bad attitude and a average player.

When he was plying (semi regularly) for us a few years ago up front, I thought he was quite good.... He always had the potential to score from long shots, he worked hard, and he was quick compared to our other strikers at the time. Obviously his finishing was wayward, he had a slightly crappy first touch and had a tendency to not opt for the pass, rather attempting the spectacular, but you could see their was something about him. His spell on the wing, although pretty poor, was not AS bad as people made it out to be, but it hurt his confidence, and a series of incidents pretty much made his position untenable, and is what fans remember him for. If we can somehow get him to what he was like before, well have a decent back up on our hands, plus heel know that he'll never get a better chance to prove himself with özil, cazorla and Walcott supporting him

It's a shame that we have to turn to a player of Bendtner when we have such a powerhouse midfield now. I'm with Hans, i'd rather we promote a young promising striker than Bendy. Firstly we don't know what condition he is in and how long it'll take him to shake off the rust. He used to be decent, but that was a few years ago. Also it'll take a pretty bad list of injuries before we actually turn to Bendy. But who knows, Wenger might just opt for him if Giroud gets injured for a long period.

I came over precisely to ask you guys for your thoughts about Bendtner. We had a player here at Norwich whose career on and off the field pretty much mirrors Bendtner's -- Chris Martin. He was a youth team product of huge promise, once described by Paul Lambert as one of the best finishers he'd seen, but never seemed to buckle down and regularly involved in stupid incidents. We finally gave up on him this summer and he signed for Derby, where he is doing what he is good at, scoring goals (5 goals in 7 appearances so far). I think he realised that Derby genuinely represented his last chance to cut it at a decent level and seems to have responded accordingly. It could have been so different for Bendtner and maybe still can if he really wants it. Be interesting to see if, when he gets his chance, he is able to take it. <ok>

Here's hoping the shenanigans of this summer give Bendy the impetus to buck his ideas up and fulfill his promise.

    <ok>

There's little value in doing anything else.

I am prepared to forgive and forget, but it is all down to him and his attitude. If he puts the shifts in and proves himself worthy of a place - then what's not to support? Only he can do that and time will tell. If it's a positive outcome we're quids in, if not then we've lost nothing and he has wasted a career.

As a squad player he could be useful in the cup competitions. If he gets his fitness back (he seems to be a little overweight right now) and shows he's committed, then I'd welcome him back into the squad but not the first team. I mean, he hasn't really hurt anyone with his antics, just himself and his career. Other players have been forgiven for far worse.

Theo has said he's happy on the right. I see Bendy as 2nd choice striker behind Giroud until Pod is back.

Sanogo is young & just moved clubs & countries. Bendy is older, experienced, physically better, and on his final warning. As soon as he can be I'd have him on the bench as he's better than all the other options at present.

As I said elsewhere, Ozil is so good, he is going to make Bendtner look decent. <ok>

I just saw his quotes about playing for us again. Almost the first time I've seen him quoted where he said the right thing. It is a start.

If he sorts his act together and regains his 09/10 form (he wasn't scoring goals for fun but he was scoring crucial goals) then he can do a decent backup job.
It seems his ego has subsided a bit

When he did play for us and didn't have his head in the clouds about being the best striker in the world, he was actually pretty decent and worked hard. He scored some good goals and contributed well to the team. He needs to take this chance with open arms because otherwise he is heading for the championship and a wasted career.

Who knows, this might be his Cinderella moment ?
