You lot are calling me a wum for sticking up for a manager that produced out best team and highest finish... I mean how stupid can some people actually get?
Of course that had something to do with it It would also be linked with the god awful start to the season and the team looking truly awful despite Bruce having three seasons and a great deal of investment to build a squad
Your forgetting the last day of the season, if the results had gone differently (ie the mags throwing away a 3-0 lead) we could have finished 17th
Our results before Bruce was sacked... Liverpool A 1–1 Newcastle United H 0–1 Swansea City A 0–0 Chelsea H 1–2 Stoke City H 4–0 Norwich City A 2–1 WBA H 2–2 Arsenal A 2–1 Bolton Wanderers A 0–2 Aston Villa H 2–2 Manchester Utd A 1–0 Fulham H 0–0 Wigan Athletic H 1–2 5 points at home from a possible 18. 1 win. Wigan, Fulham, West Brom and Newcastle teams we failed to beat at home Bruce's last starting 11 for us. Don't even try and say that team is quality. Westwood Bardsley Turner Brown Richardson O'Shea Cattermole Larsson Colback Booked Sessegnon Bendtner
Lol that was the luckiest ever 10th place finish. West Ham were down and didn't care so that was 3 points straight away 5 points away from 16th at the end of the season only 8 from relegation. With the team we had, sunderland"supporter", the team you keep banging on about, finishing 8 points from relegation is shocking
Would you take Peter Reid back? He built a great team but similarly to Bruce the team slowly left and we drifted into oblivion. Hence they both left. For me managers and players should never go back in football it, very rarely works out.
Ok who would you rather upfront? Sess and bendtner and ji and wickham? For me sess bentner Centre mids catts and colback or Vaughan and Larson? For me catts colback Centre halfs brown and turner or oshea diakati? About the same I think. We have better wingers now, purely because of giach, because Johnson is non existant. Full backs not too different. So based on the midfield and strikers I'd give to to Bruce.
I kind of get what the op is saying. Bruce did assemble one hell of a team, but he then went on and made an equally poor team and totally lost it. I suppose you can say that for most clubs though.
