Thanks Rich... our date is back on

I went there last month. An incredible place. If anyone knows of or hears of any film/documentary on this, then let me know... I can certainly recommend this place, as Godders recommended it to me.

My daughter starts secondary school this week and has done her summer project on Oradour-sur-Glane. I am so proud she chose this rather than rabbits or ballet or the trip to the beach.

Even as I type this, I can feel the chill running through me and the hairs standing up on the back of my neck. It's a very, very moving place.

    excellent.

I remembered that someone went fairly recently, wasn't it from a recommendation by someone else? Godders perhaps?

Well done to your daughter for picking such a topic for her summer project too. It's a place I feel I should visit at some point in my life.

So I went on my first run in about 4 months this afternoon. Needless to say I've become a fat **** over the summer.

Normally I'm the same. My calves get ruined after I run, but I have no bike at home...or Uni for that matter, I usually just use the cycling machines at the Uni gym :p

You're not the only one. I went to the gym for the first time in months the other day, it hurt. A lot.

I also prefer cycling, especially if you're doing it not on a machine. You get to see so much more for the same effort. I'm planning on cycling to Amsterdam next summer, it would be such a great way to see Europe at your own pace.

If it hurts, it means you've done a good job...or done it wrong, one of the two <laugh>

Run from my flat (ocean village) to Bitterne and back twice a day. Prefer swimming as it doesn't damage the joints as much.

Also do H.I.T at the gym 3 days a week.

I want to get into a routine of swimming more this year, especially early in the morning, maybe before lectures start.

I do a spin class most weeks but I am a club cyclist so I am out on the bike most weekend for between 50-100miles, I feel better after that than after running 10km to be honest! I guess the muscles I use to cycling are used to the pain by now xD

I did London to Paris 2 years ago and it was a fantastic experience, great people and we raised tens of thousands for charity :)

I surprised a lot of the experienced guys on my American Football team with my form during gym exercises, but unfortunately for me I'm pretty weak so can't do as big a weight. I'm getting there, but there's still a long way to go before I'm happy :p

I am into running a bit but haven't done a lot since my wedding, need to find the motivation again. Moving house all this week so I am too tired to bother for now.

Yeah swimming is great, burn more calories and less chance of causing muscle etc wear and tear which could lead to problems later on.

Sounds like me really, I'm not the largest, but I think I can do a respectable amount of weight for my size.

Yeah a couple of people I know did London-Paris recently for charity, and they raised a couple of thousand :) I've always wanted to cycle around Europe, for the experience and for the views and places you get to go.

I visited this moving reminder of a terrible atrocity with my daughters when they were young women in their late twenties about 17 years ago and revisited the village about five years ago with my wife.

It is an emotionally draining experience and I agree with the premise of the article that the village must be preserved.

My daughters still talk about the visit and become overwhelmed by the memory.

What happened that day is just so terrible and yet we do not learn. You could argue that what Bashar Hafez al-Assad is doing in Syria today is even worse than the events that took place in Oradour-sur-Glane.

We really must stand up to him if we are to live with our consciences.
