I take your point about Ben Arfa and me advocating for a tackler. I was really saying that if we were in the market for a creative midfielder (as opposed to signing Fellaini) then he would have been better.

A tackling midfield player, I'll probably get blasted for this - but I think Scott Parker could have done a job for us.

Let's face it we are not looking for goals from a holding midfielder, unless you are Roy Keane or Bryan Robson, they only come along every 20 years or so! Robson could tackle and score although not the archetypal holding role.

Valencia is useful in terms of tackling and providing cover, I'm not a big fan of Carrick - doesn't dominate games or take them by the scruff of the neck, but I guess we've been spoiled in the Scholes era.

    Parker five years ago maybe.

What this does indeed show is there aren't that many of that player about. Not of the highest quality. Not surprising we supposedly went in for Khedira when Hererra didn't come off.

There's only the Bayern CM Martinez who's springing to mind otherwise. He's genuine quality. As is Busquets, cheating ****er that he is.

I cannot believe there isn't a creative midfielder around that we could have brought in for £30m to £50m. What the f**k do we have that clown Woodward for? It seems all he cares about is maximising the dividends for the Glazers to extract from the club.

You can only buy players that are available, all the best ones are at big clubs, so why would they want to move?

Sure. But high quality players have been available from time to time. It is just that you have to have the right connections but also the decisiveness to push through a deal. Kagawa is one. Ozil is another good example. Arsenal went for it and got him. I doubt they dithered and argued about a few millions like that muppet did over Fellaini.

Chelsea went for Willian at the last minute even though he was having a medical at Spurs. Why didn't we go for Ozil even though he was being pursued by Arsenal? Too much decisiveness needed for a muppet like Woodward...<ok>

I'm sure fellani and Carrick will make a decent partnership with Rooney playing off rvp that will give us a chance of the title as long as giggs and young **** off and don't play again.

Because we didn't need Ozil. Don't get me wrong, I'd have been very happy if we bought him but at the end of the day he would have been a £42 million luxury buy that wasn't necessary.

To be fair to Moyes and Woodward after thinking about the transfer window today, they didn't really do as badly as they have been made out to have done. Moyes set about after a CM and that's what we got. Fellaini wasn't first choice but he was someone we got. The biggest difference I think this summer compared to previous is that our transfer business was done in the open instead of on the quiet which I hope it will be once again from now on.

If you think about it, we have gone a few summer under Fergie without big signings, it wasn't for lack of ambition that we didn't end up with a more expensive player or more players, I think the fact it turned into a farce has more to do with having too much ambition and it all being aired in public, ie Fabregas.

Fritz not the player UTD needed, thats why UTD did not chase him, pointless buying for the sake of buying

I think the only damning mistake that was made yesterday was not meeting Herrera's release clause, ultimatly we really needed a creative and defensive midfielder this window, and we got the latter. I do hope we do go back in for Herrera in the next year unless a better player e.g fabregas became available.

On fellaini I think he is a good signing offers goals and a little physicality we have missed for some time, shame the deal wasnt done with the release clause but at least the deal was concluded

Do you not think that entire deal might have been nothing more than a 'plan b' in case the Fellaini deal died a death?

It seems very odd that your delegation is there to conclude a deal at the release clause figure, then mention an issue & bail!

I think Moyes ended up getting it up the hoop tbh. As we got within £500k of what he initially bid for the pair......

Old peg leg Whelan wasn't upset at the value of the bid, it was the payment terms.

Ultimatly without really knowing all the details its hard to make a solid conclusion I do think the plan was to get both but woodward wasted too much time playing hardball over the fees of the transfers, had the fellaini deal been done in july then maybe the Herrera one may have been done yesterday

Overall I'm content with what we've god. If we manage to play Rooney and Kagawa for substantial no. of games, we should be alright in the midfield. It's the manner in which thinga turned out has disappointed most of us. At the beginning of transfer window, I'd have been happy with just Fellaini, but we almost missed out on him and paid too much. And the rest of the transfer attempts were mess. Woodward might be the one to blame, but Moyes should take some responsibility too.
