Scott Marshall from Arsenal. Played about 3 games & scored an own goal in each game!

Peter Reid and John Beresford may have been older players when we signed them - but neither was expensive and both played pretty well for us. Don't see how they were bad signings

    Never, ever disrespect the Don!

As a side issue, the Echo said there never was a sell on clause in the Bale deal...we merely accepted a pay off for the second tranche of 5 million due on his purchase price.

Can't believe that nobody has mentioned any of the signings by the infamous Ian Branfoot....He managed to piss away almost £2m of the Alan Shearer windfall on David Speedie, Kerry Dixon and Perry Groves who managed to play barely 30 games for the club between them, producing only 6 goals at about £300,000 per goal.

Interesting the names that are coming out of the woodwork! I noticed the thread title is worst signing and not worst player so for me I'm looking for players that strike that nasty mix of high fee/wages and poor/lack of performances. Forren is an example of a bad signing for us for that reason... we paid £4m for him, paid his wages for 6 months and he never played a first team game!

Other honourable mentions from me (don't know if some of these have come up before) -

Mark Draper - 24 league appearances and one season for the £2M~ we paid for him.... over £80k a game!
    Neil McCann - £2M~
    Jelle van Damme - £2.5M
    Nigel Quashie - £2.5M
    Wayne Thomas - £1.5M

David Hurst is officially our worst value signing in history, I've done the research and it's actually fairly indisputable.

I still feel for Hurst. He was an excellent centre forward who was dogged by a bad injury. Am I right in saying that his final injury came from going over on a pebble during pre-season training?

Wayne I can only head the ball up into the sky Thomas. His heading was annoying as hell, most of the time it acted as a assist for the other team. Last I heard he was playing for Luton now.

At least those mentioned above actually wanted to be here. David Speedie was in my mind undoubtedly our worst ever signing.

I think it should be worst signing that HAS PLAYED for the club.

In which case it wouldn't be Forren.
