Is this the most expensive squad ever assembled for a Championship Season? (Market values come from transfermarkt.co.uk so blame them if you donât agree with the values, also i donât think market value = transfer value!) Player ------------ Market Value £ Rob Green----------1,300,000 Brain Murphy--------450,000 Julio Cesar----------2,600,000 Richard Dunne-------875,000 Clint Hill-------------450,000 Nedum Onuoha------2,600,000 Assou-Ekotto-------8,800,000 Armand Traore------3,100,000 Suk-Young---------450,000 Danny Simpson-----2,600,000 Luke Young---------875,000 Karl Henry----------1,300,000 Samba Diakite------2,600,000 Tom Carroll---------1,800,000 Jermaine Jenas-----2,200,000 Joey Barton --------2,600,000 Ale Faurlin---------2,900,000 Gary OâNeil---------2,200,000 Niko Kranjcar-------5,300,000 Hogan Ephraim------450,000 Matt Philips --------1,800,000 S Wright Philips-----1,800,000 (Zimbabwe dollars?) Junior Hoilett-------4,800,000 Andy Johnson-------1,300,000 Charlie Austin-------4,000,000 Bobby Zamora------2,200,000 Total --------------£61,500,000 Plus kids...... Bear in mind we have the following out on loan Granero---------5,300,000 Mbia------------7,900,000 JS Park---------2,200,000 Sean Derry-----450,000 Adel Taarabt----7,900,000 Loic Remy-------8,800,000 Total -----------£32,550,000 So thatâs over 94 Million pounds of players either at or currently owned by our club!!!!! Wow! This must be the most expensive squad ever seen in the Championship, letâs just hope we can make sure the most expensive squad becomes the best team in the championship because on paper we have got no excuses. Using the same values here is the league table it will be interesting to see what relevance this has on the actual positions at the end of the season. 1. QPR- 61.5M 2. Wigan-56.5M 3. Blackburn-37.5M 4. Bolton-36.5M 5. Reading-31M 6. Forrest-27M 7. Leicester-25.5M 8. Watford-24M 9. Brighton-22M 10. Middlesboro-21.5M 11. Leeds-18.5M 12. Blackpool-18M 13. Burnley-16.5M 14. Derby-15.5M 15. Millwall-14.5M 16. Birmingham-13M 17. Huddersfield-12M 18. Barnsley-10.5M 19. Ipswich-10.5M 20. Sheffield Wed-10.5M 21. Charlton-9.9M 22. Bournemouth- 9.2M 23. Doncaster-7.3M 24. Yeovil-7.3M
How close to the final table standings is that likely to be? Probably broadly in line with what one may expect.
I know they're not valuations you've given - but some of them are crazy! M'Bia, Zamora, Young, BAE. Plus, you can't count the value of the players we have out on loan and count the value of players we have on loan like BAE. One or the other...either the value of the current squad, or of the players we own.
i totally agree - some of them seems nuts to me also, and for the purposes of comparing the squad value to other clubs the league only shows the 'value' of the players currently at the club and does not include players out on loan elsewhere, i just thought i would mention the 32+ million we have out on loan as well as it's not a small number!
JS Park---------2,200,000 Sean Derry-----450,000 Whoever compiles this stuff obviously didn't see many QPR games last season.
If you want brand recognition in Korea Park is a safer bet than Derry, whatever their merits as players.
Ha ha insane valuations and I'm sure it will be used as the stick to bash us with if things start going tits up despite the fact most of our signings have been free transfers and loans.
Few seasons ago now, but the Newcastle team - which included JB - that went down and came straight back up must have had quite a high total value. The current squad seems to have been assembled fairly cheaply: a few loans, released players, and Championship purchases.

Same goes for SWP.
So we could have exchanged the whole gang for Gareth Bale and still had £10 million in our pocket to build the rest of the squad?
But he would be a pretty cool cat break dancing or in theatrical/cinematic action roles? Definite Oscar nomination material? please log in to view this image
most of this lot was assembled for a premiership season anyway so its not a fair comparison against the rest of the championship teams
Fair point there, Sooper. Just goes to show what poor form he show for us. I can't get over the valuation of Wigan ...................... at least we had players who were recognised as being half decent before they flopped with us.
Some already have and every manager of a team that we beat will make reference to the monetary value of our squad. If it means a fast return to the prem then it will be worth every penny and followed by yet more spending in the summer as if we do go up.
