Has a Saints manager ever made a decision that at the time made you moan only to make you eat your words? This could be signings or substitutions anything you like really. One that springs to mind for me was a game at Nottingham Forset Graeme Souness takes off Le Tiss for Micky Evans. I won't repeat the things I said at the time but they were not complimentary. Mickey Evans scored twice
nor would I, but I would say that we have become a different proposition than we were and in a better/stronger position to move forward due to the style imposed by MP and the players he has signed.
Have to say when Adkins left Rickie on the bench for that first game vs Man City, felt like every Saints fan was on his back. Of course it was a good decision because Rickie would never have lasted the full 90.
Saints have gained the ability of being a much more difficult team to beat. That was almost immediately evident on Poch's arrival, last January, and has since been improved upon. What we've lost at the moment is our natural free flowing ability to score. Whilst I'll happily take a season of 1-0's, I'd still rather have a season of 3-1's.
Oh, I agree 100%. I felt I'd made that fairly clear. What I'd like to see is some of the free flowing attacking that Nigel's team was better at. So 3-1's in our favour, please. I realise I want my cake and to eat it too. I also think Cortese wants nothing less as well.
I think that Pochettino has still to win over a lot of fans. I think they like the style but is it really a winner?....As usual only time will tell.....I agree with a lot of others we still are short of players to really move us forward. We will not get them in until some more of the dare I say "Dead wood has been moved on".
Adkins=good attack, poor defence. Pochettino=good defence, poor attack. Pochettino is better tactically at this level but, although Cortese is highly involved in our transfers, Pochettino is better at attracting players. Espanyol>Scunthorpe.
I was the same when I went to watch Chelsea away last season. At the ground my six year old son even called me to say Rickie wasn't starting the game and asked 'what's that all about dad?' I couldn't believe it either but I certainly ate my words when Nigel's master plan came off. I also feel fortunate to have been able to see Adkins in his last game as Saints manager and what a game it was!
No words to be eaten here, as I'd made no comment before on this particular subject, but there were plenty of people on various football forums who thought former Bournemouth owner and Chairman, Eddie Mitchell was an idiot. Yes, he was a bit foot-in-mouth on occasion, but, guess what..[?] in the process of 4 years he has steered them from League Two to the Championship. In no small part due to recognising that Eddie Howe was a perfect fit for his club, and he stuck with him, by getting him back at the earliest opportunity. Plus, he found real investment from outisde. He has now stepped down and well done to him. AFCB are a proud football club, and one with a very bright future.
