Spurs have done the best business but on Sunday it was evident it's going to take a while for them to start working together, most of our players were there during the pre season and they are still not picking up when for an example RVW is standing there unmarked. I can see it being a close season at the top my money is still on Chelsea though.

My understanding was that was the opposite - Everton saw the knee problem as a pretext for demanding a price chip, but Twente caled their bluff.

I think the Herrera deals wasn't on the cards at all- sounds like some sort of attempted scam!

that was very odd, wasn't it!

from what i've read, manchester united WERE trying to sign herrera but when bilbao officials got wind of the deal, a third party, pretending to be officials from united intervened and tried to get a piece of the action, a cut of the deal. very strange and another embarrassing moment for them.

I think Moyes is going to struggle to be honest, he should have brought in some more quality. You can't make do and mend when the likes of Spurs, Chelsea, Man City and even Arsenal are bringing in quality players. Man United fans will only have so much patience, there's already a 'moyesout' FB page apparently.

<laugh> ridiculous over reaction by their fans already!!

i do agree with you though, i don't think he's ever going to fully win their fans over. it was always likely to be a near impossible job to replace ferguson anyway but united have had a whole generation or two brought up entirely on fergie and wall-to-wall success. i don't think he'll be there for more than three years myself and i think he'll have done well to survive that long. i fancy a slow, drawn-out decline in a similar vein to liverpool in the early 90s that will take some recovering from.

I still think Sunderland will struggle in spite of Borini & Dossena, I don't think the players are the issue, Di Canio being a bell-end is.

David McNally...rebuffed serious bids for Snodgrass and Ruddy, eked out a few million for Holt, shipped out the relict-Championship deadwood (Martin, Barnett, Jackson, Smith, Tierney, Ward, Butterfield) and replaced it with Europa-League PL quality signings.

Once again, DM is a legend in preventing any of our first team being poached. Kind of relieved about Vaz Te, Becchio is better IMO, but he does need a run of games. A loan spell of 3 months would do him a world of good, after all he is a clinical goalscorer, who has been given little of no gametime!

    Best Transfer Windows (the Rest)
    1) Man City (Negredo, Jovetic, Fernandinho, Navas, Demichelis) + rejuvenated their striking department, upgraded their wing and cover for Yaya Toure/Silva
    2) Chelsea (Schwarzer, Van Ginkel, Willian, Schurrle, De Bruyne, Eto'o) + (Courtois, Romeu, Marin, Cuevas, Atsu, T.Hazard, Hutchinson, Lukaku) all out on loan
    3) Liverpool (Mignolet, Ilori, Sakho, Toure, Moses, Alberto, Aspas) + shipped out Shelvey, Reina, Spearing, Downing and Carroll

Man City have been very astute and upgraded with real quality, Navas especially will be a true revelation this season (pace to burn and assists aplenty). Chelsea (well I'm biased here!) have upgraded very sensibly and crucially managed to get their youngsters out to good teams on loan (De Bruyne is a model example of a successful one). Expect Courtois, T.Hazard and Lukaku to be recalled and drafted into the 1st team for 2014/15. Liverpool have obviously learnt their painful lesson of how not to do transfer windows. Their picks indicate that they have solved their long-running issue of CBs x3, decent Wingers x 2/3; while managing to ship out some VERY overrated players.

Looking forward to January, Man Utd will go BIG (a lot of cash leftover and a shockingly poor transfer window from them with only 1 decent signing) and Arsenal (despite Ozil, a marquee signing that has placated the fans, inevitably injuries will force Wenger back into the market; still got £30m-£40m min. leftover).

One things for sure, the outcome of the transfer window is looking a lot rosier coming off the back of a league win.

Some of the comments above really put into perspective what a great job David McNally and Chris Hughton (and of course of members of the management team) have done <applause>
Like others have said, I think we will go for a centre back in January of Seb's calibre - with him back we look much more solid, he is very important to us.

We also bravely tried and failed to sign some players who were above our reach without disrupting overall progress. As we know Toby A has gone to play Champions League football in Spain with Athletico.

Good post, Max, especially ^ This highlighted paragraph ^ <ok>

A year or two ago, we were still scanning the lower British leagues for up and coming talent - a forté of Lamberts, which unearthed some real gems.
But to enter into negotiations this summer with players of the calibre of Fer, Toivonen and Alderwerald is different karma. To get to the stage of opening talks shows in itself just how much we've evolved in the last two years.

I probably said exactly the same thing this time last year (and the year before!) but now is a pretty good time to be a Canary fan <ok>

If we can stay out of the relegation battle this season I think in the future players like Toivonen will definitely consider us a good option. I'd say to get some more quality like Fer we need to finish in the top ten.

i view deadline day as a bonus day - you should have done all your major work but on the final day, because there are so many moves it can sometimes open a door to a player you wouldn't necessarily have gone for. its a time for opportunistic managers to nab a player.

I'm not sure I agree with that, Fenland. The fact that Fer and RvW are here may well make others - who would probably have turned us down out of hand a year ago, stop and give us serious consideration.
They've joined, ostensibly, to assist us achieve that aim of attaining top ten status. Others may well find it easier to subscribe to the NCFC vision with players of that calibre already here?

I just heard a stat (make of it what you will) that in the Premier League, Fellaini creates the same number of chances per game as Wes Hoolahan.

Agree Goldeneye. A 3 month loan for Becchio with a top half Championship club and a recall option if one of our other three get injured, would be ideal. I thought he looked good when he came on against WBA; his 'one two' with Howson for the last goal was superb.

I think my top 3 would probably be Liverpool, Man City and Spurs in terms of the quality of players, with Norwich and Southampton perhaps 'most improved'.

How do you actually judge who has had the best transfer window? League position at the end of the season? Relative to last season, or absolute position? Silverware, progress in the European competitions? If Manchester Utd are crowned champions again next May, doesn't that mean they've actually had the best transfer window despite only making one signing? <ok>
