Don't believe the hype about Paolo, he is demonstrative and says what he thinks, but he is also supportive and has the dressing room mentality (anyone who has played team sport will know what I mean).

He only finished playing five years ago so he is still in touch with the modern day footballer and their attitudes, he's a fighter and no mug so underestimate him at your peril.

I like Borini. He's a young lad still and had an awful last season. He had a great summer for the Italian U21s (think he was one of their top scorers) and he desperately needs a lot of games now. If we had Europa League this year I think we would have held on to him but without it we just don't have enough games to start him as Sturridge and Suarez will get in ahead of him.

He needs to learn when and what to say stuff to the media though. They are just waiting and feeding off the kind of outbursts he has given recently and like it or not, players read newspapers too and senior professionals will not take to being singled out for the delight of the press scum.

I'm all for discipline and professional approach but not comfortable with his constant need to hold court with the national media.

You are right mate, I wish he would keep his talking for behind closed doors and be much more media savvy, because at the moment they are having a field day with him.

He certainly seems to be able to have a laugh with the players while bollocking them at the same time ... i.e. Wickham.

He admits to his own mistakes so I think he's entitled to point out others.

Besides, I truly believe Short is fully behind him with this regime.

Liverpool people quite rightly NEVER read The Sun. Thought you would know that.

We had Welbeck and Evans on loan as unknowns, and both of them were great for us. Borini's represented Italy at every level, including 1 senior cap.
I have every faith that he will be a success for us, and it will help him that all of our Coaches are Italian.

Liverpool supporters like him, he gives 100% and draws defenders away and can move.

Brendan Rodgers believes Fabio Borini's loan spell at Sunderland from Liverpool will provide the striker with some much-needed game time.

The Italian completed a season-long loan to Sunderland on Deadline Day to become Paolo Di Canio's 13th summer signing at the Stadium of Light.

And Reds boss Rodgers believes the opportunity to play regular football will help Borini realise his potential.

"It's just to get games," said Rodgers.

"He had a stop-start season last year with his injuries and I just felt this year he needed to go and play football.

"With Daniel Sturridge, Luis Suarez, Iago Aspas and some of the other attacking players, that might have been limited.

"I have a real belief in Fabio - he is a talent and we've seen that on occasions, but he needs to be playing regularly to demonstrate that talent."

Rodgers revealed there was no shortage of competition for Borini's signature and explained the presence of Di Canio at Sunderland was a key factor in allowing the 22-year-old to move to Wearside.

The Anfield manager added: "We had a host of clubs wanting to take him, but with Sunderland having the Italian connection there and being a big club where he can go and play, I'm sure he'll get the chance to shine and we'll look closely at his development this year."

Let's be honest mate, if we'd signed someone like him a year or so back we'd be doing cartwheels ...... I think he'll be absolute dynamite alongside Fletcher.

I usually take 'til Thursday to get over a Saturday defeat but I'm feeling chipper today.

A class striker who'll work his socks off in every game, unlike Sess, and a proper left back who has experience of Europe and a style of play Di Canio will operate.

Bringing a left back is like signing Colback, out of the blue, who's never going to progress as a football player being stuck at left back.

Sunderland need to make the most of people like Colback ...... just imagine the transfer/agents/signing on fees we've saved with JC.
If we allow him to progress into another Henderson we can eventually cash in and repeat the process.

Exactly, Jack does a decent job filling in at left back, but hes a central midfielder by trade. Its nice to finally have a natural left back and right back playing for us.

I think alot of the critics of Borini on here are judging him because theyre upset about Sess leaving, and they talking about Borini as if hes his replacement!
If people actually stopped to think that weve signed a very highly rated young Italian international striker that cost 10.5m a year ago, theyd actually be quite happy and excited about him!

I remember people on here going mad when we signed Wellbeck, because he wasnt a big name at the time.
A year later the same people were saying we should put a 10m pound bid in for him!

Bingo ....... I reckon the lad will be 'Di Canio's' best signing so far and you can quote me on that.

When did we sign him - I thought it was a loan deal, he still belongs to Liverpool.

A loan is a signing mate. We signed him on loan, he's under contract to us for the season.
