This transfer window started very slowly. certainly after Tony went on record saying we have a list five or six players that we want get. then all will be great at loftus road. it was then bit strange when we missed out on bridges. A few on here thought it was a big plot for Harry to walk away. But fair play to Harry and the board for getting rid of 18 players which is most of a squad. Then to slowly and steadily bring in hard working solid players to boast the squad. plus a couple of younger players to add to the attack. the best bit of business was done yesterday by bringing in a couple of creative midfielders in which we were lacking and another defender. But more importantly we kept three of are best players in AJ Barton and Hoilett. This is Harry's second window and if we get sort of results of the player we did in the last one, thing will be great at loftus rd. P.S bringing Steve in as a coach was another great move
Fair points here queenslandrangers. My opening post on this forum was with the belief that Redknapp didn't have the hunger or desire anymore to rebuild us. Although we're still far from stable, we've made huge improvements with our first team. I love the fact the vast majority of our squad are English and Irish as well. Credit to Redknapp where it's due and we all hope this story has a happy ending with automatic promotion.
Agree with above posts. Not an easy job for Harry, breathing life into a corpse. Badly handled, we could have gone into a tail spin in the Championship. It all looking positive to me now.
And no unknown foreign johnnies coming in which is good only proven prem/championship players, ( hughes should have done this )
Shame on those that believed Redknapp was engineering an early departure for himself. Other than to have remained in the League Cup and to have won every game 6-0 there's little else that we could have (un)reasonably asked of Harry and Tony at this stage. Ain't it funny how a relegation can be so cathartic?
No denying we look to be set up well for the season, and glad to see someone give Tone a shred of credit as well - I posted elsewhere that I like the loan/ short term contract for older players approach to get us up this year and keep the books clean. Even I will admit that H is delivering at the moment, and I certainly don't want him to fail in any way.
I agree. We are putting together a squad to gain promotion which will inevitably change substantially if successful. Yesterday's signings were very positive (two attacking CMs), but as loans are by definition temporary.
Does anyone else feel that 'if' we got promoted this time around we have potentially more players that could cope with the prem. Last time round it was all about Adel and we never really recovered from that. This time there would be a fair few that could hold there own and we can build on. Our squad as it stands looks better than sunderlands, palace, hull. And as good as quite a few others. And thats without additions or even getting Remy or Adel back in. I know we are 41 games away from anything yet but it looks so positive.
I think the difference this time around is that all the players we have, while some may be relegated to the bench in the premiership, are more than capable squad players. Whereas last time, and by Warnock own admission, the squad would need a wholesale change, which unfortunately he didn't get the chance to do in a timely fashion after promotion and he was forced to panic buy. I would still expect us to spend some big money if we are promoted, the difference being it will be for the 'right sort', as Harry has done so far.
Harry has started the season well, Kudos to him. Will be good to see how he fits in the new players into already winning team, hopefully now we will have the backbone to take a couple of knocks and still come out fight an impressive start.
Unlike in previous years there's clearly a lot of hard work gone into player acquisition this time around and those that said HR was engineering an early exit for himself should hang their collective heads in shame. Having said that and while still firmly being a Redknapp protagonist, I feel that emerging from the window without a target man/extra striker is a serious failure of his strategy even allowing for the fact that Johnson stays for now.
Well he did bring in Austin. But I agree we need another striker and a quick astute CB. Still Harry kept the players we needed to keep, and we are looking pretty solid, though short of goals, and he deserves credit for this.
Agree with a lot of the above, also think it worth pointing out that I doubt if any of the 3 players that we got in yesterday would have come to QPR if Harry had not been the manager.
Once one (hopefully) start providing clear-cut chances for Austin, I expect us to score more than usual (so far) solitary goal per game. Admittedly, Austin has missed a couple he perhaps should have put away, but of the games I've attended so far (all away) the supply to him has been poor. The introduction of the new players will hopefully change this.
Or if QPR had been located in Cannock.......sorry, couldn't resist it, but I think the London thing is a big draw too.
I think we've operated a much more prudent window this time with sensible fees for those that cost, some excellent frees and complemented with shrewd loans. I'd give Harry 8/10. A striker would have been ideal but we can still pull in a loan and Baird may yet sign to cover our backline. Onwards and upwards...
