I don't think his comments that Utd have funds was the problem, rather it's the incompetence that he has displayed of what he does when speaking to other clubs is the issue IMO. Utd despite the debt caused by the Glazers, do have the funds to buy decent players, and everyone knows this regardless of what Woodward may say.
Our problem was the scattergun approach Woodward employed. Rather than targeting 2 or 3 serious targets he bid for a much higher number but all of the bids were less than the players values or release clauses. Ofcourse you don't bid for a players release clause in the first instance, that's silly, but it seems as though Woodward hoped that by offering less than the players value for enough players that eventually one club would bite and we could get a bargain deal done. Woodward needs to learn very fast that it doesn't work like this. I've read all about United pulling out of the Herrera deal because they thought he wasn't worth his release caluse, our offer wasn't that far off so why not? Very odd transfer window imo and I didn't like it one bit. I hoe next year we shut up and get everything done quickly and quietly which is how we should be operating.
Next year is World cup year so signings could be done later than normal, so maybe January may bring in a player, maybe
Maybe January bid for 10-15 different players and get one of them we could have agreed a fee on a month earlier for 4 Million less.
