It doesn't make much sense does it! I suspect that nobody had their eye on the players in situ. We were busy chasing targets when somebody at the back of the room said: Er! what are we doing about Ade & Benny? Give Harry a ring.
Chiriches is right-footed I think mate so I doubt he'd play LB, maybe RB if Walker/ Naughton got injured? I don't think Rose is good enough to last a season without any form of competition and I don't think he's better than Benny. If his performances drop, there's no natural LB to step in (unless you throw in Fryers). It means likely taking Naughton or Vertonghen out of there preferred positions to play there which is something I'd prefer we didn't do. We've had a fantastic window, probably our best ever and that includes selling our best player who happens to be one of the best in the world. But it ended on a little downer with the fact we've left our self short at LB and I think AVB's made a mistake there. This isn't the first time AVB has cast aside a player - Daws and Hudd last season - so I'm worried that perhaps Andre just doesn't rate him and unfortunately, Benny would rather get guaranteed football rather than wait around for a chance like Dawson did. I hope Rose proves me and any other doubters wrong, he started off well but I think he was at fault big time for the Arsenal goal Sunday (along with Daws, who had a shocker) and I'm worried his lack of experience could be a problem in the future, especially against the "bigger" clubs with a higher calibre of player.
Yeah I agree that's why I said mainly the "bigger" teams, I think Liverpool, City, Chelsea and Utd, all have players that can cause problems from wide positions.
I think Danny, like the rest of the team need time to get used to each other's style, thats why we have to give them time IMO
He'll be a decent back up for cup games and in Europe but I don't like the idea of having to field him in a league game just yet.
Oh don't get me wrong - I do think it's a mistake, but I think we'll be 'okay' rather than get ripped apart by people. I'd rather had kept Benny as a back up but the ones we have can "do a job" until January as long as we move for one then I'm content! Agreed that both him and Dawson had a shocker for that goal but at the same time can you remember Walcott actually doing anything that game? Rose seemed to have him fairly under control!
Yeah Walcott was anonymous throughout the match and Rose done a decent job on him but the problem is, that one mistake led to their goal. I'm not saying Ekotto is perfect by any means but I don't think he would've been caught out of position as far as Rose was. There was a good 5 yards between Rose and Walcott, giving Walcott half a yard is a mistake as his pace is frightening, 5 yards and it's a worry as to why he'd do such a thing. Dawson was just as much at fault though, he let Giroud get away far too easily and had a shocking game in general too, our worst player on Sunday alongside Dembele in my opinion. Questions could even be asked of Lloris to be beaten from that angle but the pace of the ball coming in and Giroud's neat touch were perfectly positioned.
Walcott dived over Dembele to "win" a free kick in a dangerous position that Carzola hit (cleverly if he intended it) under the wall. I think we would have looked at that very closely had the ball gone in - it was only slightly wide if you recall.
The offences for want of a better description, do not warrant instant dismissal on a contractual basis, so to 'unretain'! his services isn't easy, without an unfair dismissal claim. Why BAE's agent (Just Football) can't get him anything better than a game at QPR you would have to ask them, thats the weird bit, an entire TW wasted. I think its a personality clash myself, we know what a 'free spirit' BAE is, under Harry little instruction aswell and no pressure for his place led to a bit of complacency maybe. The AVB regime seems more military, and BAE's 'in one ear and out the other I'll do as I please' approach has just clashed. For him and Adebayor to mess about being late and such, collecting petty fines as some sort of protest at their dislike of a certain coaching staff member is odd and is doing neither player in their prime any good.
This is an important and worrying insight into AVB. It's easy to believe that he is authoritarian in his methods so good troops will respond to their leader, but, and here is the worry, the more creative free spirits will be stifled. Dembele atm is exhibiting symptoms of shell shock and appears VERY inhibited in his play. Adebayor who has received dogs abuse on here could also be a victim. It appears to me that he was playing a provider role for a lot of the time that he was playing. Bale was surely given a free role, and we did become dependent on that so AVB is not setting rigid plans for everyone. This is all speculation of course, but the rigidity of some of our play would suggest that there is some truth in it.
Aside from the disciplinary issues with Benny, the current coaching staff did not think he was technically up to the standard they want. As they are forming their opinions on last season's performances, then it is easy to see why they think the way they do. On the disciplinary side, there is one club rule which he consistently and deliberately infringed and in the end the management had simply had enough of the guy. I have been to QPR's training ground and frankly it is a bit of a dump. Maybe when Benny first visits it, the penny will drop with him, as it is worlds apart from our state of the art complex.
I take it that you are unable to be more specific on the rule OS? Another question, do you think Benny's shortcomings refer to his individual playing ability or his inability to fit into a system?
I am surprised any analysis of Sundays goal doesn't include Vertonghen. If you get the chance, watch it again and keep your eyes on Verts and you will see he is also to blame in trying to hold the line when he has already seen Rose has switched off. Dawson is a split second slow to react and Lloris has his weight on the wrong foot. That type of ball is difficult to defend, but that is no excuse because work on the training ground always includes practice against that type of delivery.
An update on the transfer dealings, Ceballos has gone out on loan to a Portugese side. Sorry, but I can't remember their name, but no doubt the club will announce it shortly. I am surprised no one has queried the whereabouts of Souleymayne Coulibaly. He was out on loan last season and we specifically helped him with his homesickness problems. He asked for extended summer leave because he was still homesick and the club quite correctly told him to get stuffed. Unfortunately he has still failed to return and is being deducted a large percentage of his wages to pay off his club fines.
"An update on the transfer dealings, Ceballos has gone out on loan to a Portugese side. Sorry, but I can't remember their name, but no doubt the club will announce it shortly." Had to be a loan or out injured. Loaned to Arouca (Portuguese top league club) ??
