But its not though, we have paid 1,000,000 for the season. A lot if he isnt up to it.

Vasquez on loan is an OK signing. If we play the game something like Spain U23 and not like Getafe or Espanyol then Vazquez is likely going to flourish under Laudrup at Swansea City.
But now I have been experiencing that today we had the possibility to sign Moussa Sow for a cut price of £5m (rated £10m] it's simply a no brainer IMO. Even a loan move I would have preferred. Moussa Sow any time cos he has been a consistent goalscorer for years.
I am not saying that Vazquez is a bad signing, no he is very promising prospect, but Moussa Sow would just have been a better choice making us more dangerous right now in this season.

I can see why he is a different type of striker to Michu...liking the way he chases the ball down here (ala Michu)

I am happy with this deal. A definate Laudrup signing and he knows more than us :)

Apart from Shecter (Tumulumulumulu's probable input), he has a better record at picking the right guy than any manager we have had before, I would argue :)

    Confirmed now.
Swansea City have completed the signing of Spanish Under-21 international Alvaro Vazquez from Getafe, subject to international clearance.
The 22-year-old striker agreed terms on a season-long loan move to the Liberty Stadium tonight with the view to a permanent transfer.
Vazquez was an integral part of the Spanish Under-21 side that clinched the European Championship crown in the summer and his arrival ends Michael Laudrup’s quest to add an additional striker to his squad.
“Vasquez is a young player I know from his time at Espanyol and now Getafe,’’ explained Laudrup.
“He is a little different to the strikers we have and has the characteristics we have been looking for. He will give us a different option.’’
Swans chairman, Huw Jenkins, added: "He is a young player with plenty of potential. He has already done well out in Spain and looks like the right signing for us at this stage."
Vazquez, who came through the ranks at Espanyol before securing a move to Getafe last summer, was a teammate of Swans defender Jordi Amat for club and country.
Born in Barcelona, Vasquez joined Espanyol at the age of 14. He made the senior step up with the reserves in Segunda B before making his La Liga debut five years later in September 2010 against Real Madrid.
He played his final game for Getafe as a second-half substitute in the 1-1 draw with Valladolid on Saturday, taking his tally to 89 top-flight appearances in La Liga with 14 goals.

Vasquez is an unknown at premiership football and a good deal for a loan player, I said in another thread that it would be madness to pay anywhere near £4 million for Odemwingie who is an old man at 32 yrs of age. you will never get your money's worth out of him....

I know but I'd like to think that someone from the club has actually watched him , considering we've taken it to the last day I'd imagine any concerns with his ability would have been satisfied .He is a player thats been on the clubs radar for a while otherwise why not go for the likes of Moses for example or god forbid Peter (who's that knocking at the door) Odemwhingie

Fully agree. I prefer Vazquez over Odemwingie. Age, hunger for success, resale value, all in favour of Vazquez. Odemwingie simply too pricy with a price tag near £4m.
The big question is however how quickly Vazquez will adapt the PL? - but I am convinced Swansea City will be able to develop Vazquez and make him a better player. cos he is definitely a promising young striker talent.

Hey, mate I really hope he proves me totally wrong and that he gets his fair share of goals for us. I will be 100% behind him when he pulls the shirt on. But, I cant see past his poor goalscoring record and that is a masive concern, should we be with out Bony/Michu.

Its all very well having somebody different (as ML says). But if he doesnt or cant score goals we might as well as kept moore or played Donelly. Hope its not a lsat minute panic as something else didnt come off for us.

This appears to be an excellent signing for us a good young player a striker with pace. Can't agree with the critisism of his goal scoring record which in fact is better than spurs's Defoe. Has a good goal scoring record at international level and if you look deeper into his season with gatafe you'll see that the service he received was poor. Every confidence in this lad having a good season with us.

Taff i'm not saying he is not a good player i'm saying that £4 million is far to much for a player of his age...I'm in favour of younger players who you have the chance of selling on if he is not the player who fits into our style even if we don't get what we paid for him at least its something...

I would never pay 4m for Odenwingie. Much rather Vasquez, can't be a bad player if he's in the Spanish U21 team.

Dai, I agree with you completely!<ok>

I just think that if he scores a vital goal for them, then £2.5m (or £4.0m?) could/would be seen as money well spent!

I was hoping for someone with more experience and a better goalscoring record, but I think its a financial decision combined with the hope that the young lad will do well, 1 million euros + wages to loose if the lad fails. However if he doesnt fail, lots could be gained.

Fingers crossed the young spaniard will do well.

PS: Wasnt hoping for that Odemwingie dude though, didnt really have ideas about who we would sign, was thinking Laudrup would pull a rabbit out of his hat :).

I think ML may have pulled that rabbit - got a feeling that Vasquez may suit our style better than Bony!

Jury has to be out for bony at the moment, so far £13 million don't look a good buy for the price paid on performance so far. I hope he won't be a flop and he loses some weight and gains some speed. Lets see how he does in the next few games but i expected more than he has shown so far...
