Remember when everyone used to say him and Forren were really good and the future of the team......yeh.
If, if, if. Mayuka was further down the pecking order than Fox, Fonte and Hooiveld are. That makes your comparison rubbish. If Lambert, Osvaldo and Rodriguez are all unavailable (which is pretty unlikely) then Guly can play up front. He'd be just as good at it as Mayuka, and he's a more useful squad player because he's versatile. Hanging onto a player just in case of a ridiculous injury crisis is plain unnecessary. We've probably got youth players who would be about as useful as Mayuka. (I also find your lack of faith in Fonte disturbing.)
I don't think many went round claiming both were 'really good', most people were reserving their judgement for when they had sufficient game time, unfortunately that never happened for Forren and I'd say the jury is still out on Mayuka, he could still have a future at the club.
We regularly shoehorn three strikers into that team so he was really only one injury or suspension away from potential game time.
Fonte is a player who looked out of his depth in the championship at times. I accept he has stepped up to a degree and has occasional games when he looks competent, but out of all the central defenders who started a league game this weekend he'd probably be very near the bottom of the list in terms of quality. I think it's much less likely he will feature regularly for us in a year or two's time than Mayuka frankly. And I'm not comparing anyone with anyone, I'm taking your dumb argument that we should immediately jettison anyone who isn't good enough to regularly start games to its logical conclusion.
Do we, really? Dani has been here for two games. One game he came on as a sub, when Jay and Rickie were on. The other he started with Rickie, then went off for Jay to come on. So we've started with two each time, and finished with three on one occasion. Before this season we just had Rickie, Jay, Mayuka and Guly. When did we ever shoehorn three of those four in on a regular basis?
They were really good. I think there's evidence to show that they've both wasted their talents to a degree, perhaps because they simply don't work hard enough. Mayuka's gone from being the African champions' main threat, to being third best behind Collins Mbesuma and Jacob Mulenga.
Nice healthy dose of purposeful misrepresentation there. I'm saying it makes sense to jettison someone who isn't getting any playing time at all. He was of no use to us last season. We need players who are second and perhaps third choice in their position, but Mayuka doesn't even fit that description.
So instead of replying to the comment properly, you chose to take a pop at a dyslexic's sentence structuring. Bravo. Plus ten internet points.
Who is second and third choice for all four attacking positions then? And you misrepresented my point first.
Well, in terms of attacking options, we have... Lambert Osvaldo Rodriguez Lallana Gaston Do Prado Ward-Prowse S. Davis Isgrove
I didn't misrepresent anything. I told you why Fonte, Hooiveld and Fox are more important to us than Mayuka. ST: Lambert, Osvaldo, Rodriguez, Guly AMC: Ramirez, Lambert, Ward-Prowse, Davis, Guly, Lallana AML: Lallana, Rodriguez, Ramirez, Osvaldo, Isgrove AMR: Lallana, Rodriguez, Ramirez, Osvaldo, Isgrove, Ward-Prowse, Guly
