PAOLO DI CANIO has risked a dressing room revolt by slamming his Sunderland players for being brainless and lacking heart. The Black Cats boss was fuming with his side for rolling over to lose 3-1 at Crystal Palace on Saturday, claiming some of his flops are âempty in the brainâ and do not have âthe right desireâ. He also took aim at skipper John OâShea, who was sent off for conceding a penalty, and striker Ji Dong-Won, who ducked out of a header in the penalty area. But Starsport understands that several figures in the dressing room are not happy with the Italianâs methods and are fed up with being publicly criticised. Di Canio said: âIf they have more desire and if they play less empty in the brain, they can keep the ball much better. At this moment they are empty. âJohn OâShea did something really wrong. The penalty didnât come from a dangerous situation. âItâs absolutely poor and not acceptable. It was difficult to see this goal at this level. âIt is not just with John OâShea, but with a few players â there is not the right desire. I cannot change the heart of my players. On the other hand, Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway was overjoyed by his sides' performance âItâs absolutely poor and not acceptable. It was difficult to see this goal at this level.â Paolo Di Canio âEverybody, the manager first, has to let them realise they have to work so hard in this league. Otherwise itâs difficult. âWhen you have the ball three yards from goal and my player, rather than push his neck out, retreats his neck because heâs worried, what are you going to do? âJi can do much better, even in only keeping the ball. We donât ask the moon â just to not lose every ball under pressure.â Sunderland signed 12 players this summer but have just one point from three matches and face Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United in three of their next four. Di Canio said: âWe could have one point by mid-October. But we have the quality to beat any side.â http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/336006/Angry-Paolo-Di-Canio-s-rant-at-brainless-flops
These players get criticised week in week out by us fans at the games and by pundits and the media and they are upset at being told they were ****ing woeful against a poor Palace team by their own manager. Here's a thought ****ing play better put more effort in and don't roll over because you don't like the managers methods.
Damn right, There's no way a player of JoS' pedigree or experience should be giving away penalties like that. They ****ed around last year, went on the piss and didn't give ****. I'm glad that Paolo has informed us that he's doesn't think these performances are acceptable. But I've said before, only 3/4 months since last season ended. Going to take time to whip them into a fluent unit.
He should be having a go at the brainless flops sanctioning the Sessegnon deal to WBA, Maggie probably think WBA are in Qatar.
I agree with your sentiments, but we must remember, we are dealing with footballers here, not real men. These are players who are earning an obscene amount of money, there every need is granted, everything is done for them, they are pampered beyond belief. They will go in a sulk if they get critisised in public (probably in private as well). I agree with PDC, but I do wish he would keep in in house. All these football pundits are saying the same thing, and remember they are ex footballers, so they cant all be wrong can they?
Has he lost the changing room?, if he has, the players needn't bother looking for sympathy from the fans who pay hard earned money to travel home & away to watch them badly underperform
It's ridiculous that Real Madrid feel they have to deny spending 101 mill euros on Bale, for fear of upsetting Ronaldo!
I'll ask you the same question as your mate BGM. What do you predict for Wednesday's lottery numbers?
