Kish was pretty much the most consistent performer over our premiership seasons, that's simple fact. He will sadly never be seen as the Charlton legend he actually is
my lasting memory of last season is McOxo giving the ball away so cheaply in our own half of the pitch not even under pressure, he even made me leave 1 or 2 games early before my blood pressure went sky high and I never leave games early either!
What you have to remember about Kish was that he was playing alongside the likes of Ambrose, Rom, Murphy and Smertin, somebody had to do the dirty work.
franco,,,id like to hear your thoughts on D I Canio and his time in SE7. for me he sums up the points made on here. i watched a player who every time he got the ball, tried to make something happen. trying to make the difficult ball, the ball that leads to a direct scoring chance. its easy when you are breaking out 4 on 3 to pass to your teammate and if its not a positive option, just makes the chance harder or disappear straight away. scholesy was a great example of this. every touch he took made the play more direct and effective (and when i say direct it can be a 2 yard backheel if the situation calls for it. Di Canio. took our corners, we start scoring from corners. took free kicks, ended up with assists. such a quality player who perhaps to the undertrained eye wonders if he is putting a shift in just because he only gets 20 touches a games. but most of those touches directly led to something special. jensen a similar player for us also. quality doesnt have to include industry, thats a misnomer of the english game
In my opinion, 'legend' is a little too much when describing Kishishev. If he was that good, he would have played regularly. Semedo was another of our midfield enforcers and he did his best for us. But I never rated him and would not class him as a legend. Legends to me are Super Clive, Johnny Robinson, Steve Gritt and Darren Bent. But Kishishev? Not for me, no.
Kish has signed for his hometown club now, signalling the wind down of his glittering career I would never call him a a legend but he's a cult favourite to me Darren Bent as a legend however? CONTROVERSIAL
Di Canio was an absolute legend for us- rarely saw him have a bad game. Would have been nice if he had a pop more, but he knew he was responsible for 90% of our attacks and played with absolute discipline to his role.
Cult hero is a different kettle of fish. Kish would certainly fall under that title. I have nothing against him and love it when any player slugs a gut for our club. A bit like Steve Brown; limited abilities but the heart of a lion. I would certainly class Darren Bent as a Charlton legend. His goalscoring ratio for us was astounding - even more so when considering the debacle that was his last season. But how long must a player be at a club to be classed as a legend? Steve Gritt is a legend with a long Charlton history behind him. De Canio is a legend after just a single season. I would consider Jorge Costa to be a cult hero. Is there any difference? Maybe a new thread is needed on this one?
Agreed Ponders on the last point... Maybe we all need to compose an official list, rating players on select pre-determined criterion and then class them as legends or cult heroes etc. We could use ven diagrams! And then ask Ackworth to compile it into a short book...
Bent is always a hero for me, as he actually said to the board after relegation that he would be willing to stay but understands fully if he has to be sold. Did what was best for CAFC- Spurs bid £16mil and there was agent talk of bigger clubs chasing him. Instead of sulking or holding out for one of them, he understood any deal wouldn't have been to the magnitude of what Spurs were offering. Thats a professional.

chrissy - totally agree. if benty had agitated we would have got 5M less than that in the transfer fee. he is a thoroughly top bloke
Yeah, this Acworth fellow is a bit odd. Is he A2C in disguise? If he can write a book then I could be the next Dickens! Some lovely comments about Benty. A real top guy.
wash your mouth out with a bar of soap. Are you having laugh ? Its like comparing Rolf Harris to Rembrandt. Pritchard is the most limited midfielder we have had since the great Alan McCormick. He makes Andy Peake look like Steven Gerrard. Hell..Pritchard makes Steve Gritt look like Gareth Bale.
Spot on, someone had to do it. I like the players who do the dirty work, probs explains why I like Danny Hollands, doesn't do anything flash and skillful but will slam a tackle in or break up the play if he has too. Rommedahl one of my fave players at the time, don't know why but always liked him, ran and ran and ran and was blistering, sadly didnt show what he could do most of the time.
