There's a thread from a City fan on the Brighton forum asking how they feel about this rumour. They seem to think circa £1.5m is a fair fee for a player untried at our new level. Also, they're not overly surprised as we tried to get the lad back in January so it's not a great shock to see us try again. Would be an exciting acquisition - hope there's some truth in it
We are going to play like Blackpool did last season but more adventurous I am sure PL will look at the defence in the next 2 weeks. It appears his priority was the front line and is working his way back towards the net.
I think we need as many different options going forward as possible next year, tricky players in midfield, wingers to get crosses in, target men up front etc. Agree that defence does need sorting though, esp. CB.
1.5mil!! Cheap as chips.... and if he storms the premiership he could quadruple his price tag considering what age he is..
i really hope this goes through - looks a top player and he can cross the ball unlike someone else in our squad
I hope it goes through too. Bennett can teach MacNamee how to cross a ball while keeping it within the field of play - and Macca can teach Benno how to do dozens of lightning quick stepovers....with little end product
2 players like bennett and johnson for £1.5mil is a bargain, i hear that lambert hasnt given up on snodgrass either Am i right in thinking that if need be bennett can drop in at RB and johnson can play LB aswell if needed??
Maybe PL is being clever by concentrating on attacking players early, because he knows their price isn't as effected by "silly season"? Maybe its just me, but I've always felt the price of midfielders and strikers is vastly inflated come the end of the transfer window, compared to defenders and goalkeepers? Carroll was never worth all that money! If Lambert is being careful about the defenders he brings in, he can leave it a bit longer because it won't cost as much as leaving a striker until the middle of august? Maybe its just me.
i dunno, i can see promoted teams going for the same defenders, leading to a bidding war. Players such as matt mills, luke chambers and out of favour players with premier league experience etc. But to some extent i do agree with you.
DH, what you say seems to be true. Any last minute 'panic-buying', as deadline day approaches nearly always involves high(ish) profile strikers or midfield. Is this coincidence, or all part of the Lambert masterplan ?
I don't think there is any new news here, but the local Brighton rag are reporting today that the fee is agreed and all that remains is personal terms - Bennett is on holiday at the moment. http://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/9068657.Poyet_backs_his___1m_man/
The Brighton Argus seem to think it's a done deal Once he and Russell Martin start to gel, we should be in for some fireworks down the right flank. For what it's worth, he was in Steve Claridges Div 1 team of the season.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rN5lZHsm8TM I know these youtube videos make everyone look like maradonna but its still a good watch. Ambitious signing he looks a class act.
