In all serious though, first 5 games can go any way as teams settle new players in. Normally, we do **** in the first quarter and then pick it up - so alot of the optimism is from us having a good start for once. We've got alot to work on still; we're not creating too many chances atm, we're not keeping up the pressing game into the second half, we're not keeping possession as often as we (and BR) would want especially in the second half. There's plenty to be positive about though. Talk of the league and top4 is mostly tongue in cheek, I feel, given how fast opposition fans were to write us off or claim we're a **** team. I've always said we'll surprise people this year and I'm glad they under estimate us so much. If we keep our heads down, grind out the tough games we never used to but now are doing, and keep improving, we'll do well this season. PS: we also need to keep Skrturtle
I enjoy supporting the much maligned players in the squad who I feel get a rough deal. First Spearo (legend) and now Skrtle! Never world class, but good solid players who people are far too quick to write off as **** and not needed. ...name change might be inc at this rate
We are now playing as a team, difficult to beat when we score first. Top of the league any one complaining?.
Absolutely we need to score more goals and I believe we are going to do than. Brendan Rodgers building the team from the back.
Might struggle to score more than we did last season - BR's target of another 20 goals might be out of reach...
It does worry me that we dominated Stoke and got just the one, but then barely created against Villa and utd. We have never looked like scoring a 2nd in either game.
West Brom 3-0 Liverpool Liverpool 2-2 Man City Liverpool 0-2 Arsenal Sunderland 1-1 Liverpool Liverpool 1-2 utd Norwich 2-5 Liverpool Liverpool 0-0 Stoke Liverpool 1-0 Reading So it took us until the 20th October and 8 games to get 9 points last season. We even followed that with 3 draws on the trot to Everton, Newcastle and Chelsea.
I have a feeling it won't be long till we start performing for the full 90 mins and start getting more goals.
Love him or hate him, the shadow of Suarez still hangs over the side. That we have managed 3 wins without him and sit top of the league is a great achievement. So we have only scored 3 goals - so what? With those 3 goals we have already amassed 9 points - 2 points clear of our nearest rivals. If our style of play so far is going to continue to bring the same results then I'm all for it. Sure I enjoy the continuous attacking that we have witnessed for the last 2 seasons. But in that time we have been the creating chances Kings and hitting the woodwork Kings. But we have never even looked like making a proper challenge for the title. That style of play also led to some miserable defeats as we became headless chickens or boring draws as we battered at a parked bus. The attack will change once Suarez is back and players move their roles and responsibilities. As for now don't knock it - it's working
I'm not complaining, but 1-0 is very bad for my nerves in the last ten minutes of a game. Sure it's ok to win by that margin, but obviously you run the risk of throwing it all away with one lapse of concentration. We almost did it with Stoke, and we can't rely on penalty saves for our points. We definitely need to be banging more in, but I'm expecting the next few games to be a bit more open and we'll make- and hopefully take- more chances. Also, things will change again when the Zombie Flesh-Eater returns.
