Once again people are jumping up and down on the strength of one game. Someone even suggested that allowing Spurs most of the posession was a brilliant Wenger tactic. I would be much more concerned if I was an Arsenal fan. They took their chance well but that apart they were hanging on. Let's see this Spurs side a few weeks down the line before passing judgement AGAIN! We have been here before, but this time we do have some high quality players so I am not going to worry too much just yet.
Agreed. I think the reactions on here are a little premature... something I have been accused of many times. This team needs time. Simple. They'll get results against lesser teams but need to build to get the better of the big boys. But it will come. In a few months, the team will look a distant memory of what it did today.
No offence spurf but before the game, these same posters like jamspur (who are saying theres an over reaction) , where basically saying we had a squad to challenge for the title, based on what? two games and signings which have yet to play together? Passing judgement on AVB as a manager and his tactics is a much more valid argument considering hes been here for over a year and made the same mistakes, and if it wasn't for bale we would have failed to get near 4th. I saw comments before the game " arsenal are finished" " how will arsenal handle our new team" "we have an amazing squad" We have played three games and soldado has barely had a proper chance in the league and that is down to AVB and the way he sets up the team, this isn't an attack on the new players as we all know they need to settle, but last year we also had the same problems with attack, which was why Bale and his one man attacking spree was so key. I've no doubt the team will improve in certain areas, yet maybe some of the fans on here should calm down and actually wait until our team has settled before we start thinking about top four, let alone a title race (which isn't happening).
Read your post, no-one has turned on the squad and manager, I've been consistantly unsure of AVB since he arrived, which is longer than you've been on this board, no-one is acting like the worlds ended (you have not written it as "I" in your first post, or do you constantly use "I" instead of "People"!), just plain observation on things so far.
I I said I expected us to lose the game and challenge for top 3. If you REALLY want to go digging through my posts I said we could 'challenge' for the title but not win it - aka give them (City Chelsea United) a run for their money but be outdone by the end of the season as long as our new players clicked.
You really are a sensitive soul if the way that posts is written offends you. Just put me on ignore as you seem to take everything I say as bring directed at you. Not interested in having yet another argument with you having a little cry everytime I say something.
You are passing judgement on what is almost a new team. Too early, that's my view. Same as Townsend, rave revues after a couple of games is a bit premature. As for tactics whatever they are it will depend on the players understanding. This was also the first time our new players had come up against class opposition in the PL and it was clear the speed surprised them. I noticed some rapid adjustments by Paulinho and Capoue as they realised that they were in a different ball game from Palace, Tsiblis,i or Swansea.
Dig through your posts, don't be daft. We alll post on here often enough and there aren't a large number of posters so each one of us will remember things other posters have said. You need to understand some of us have been mentioning issues within the squad and issues with AVB for a lot longer then two games and one summer, so notso is right, talking about "turning on" the squad or manager is ridiculous. While most have been getting excited by our signings, very few actually stopped to think "will AVB get the best out of the players"...... "what about his tactics". These are just as important if we want to be a success
What a **** attempt! You're a bit of weirdo son, differing views are the norm here, get used to it, but you make a habit of condemning them with some sweeping statement that you're so superior, when really you're a bit of a cock!, tis you having a cry at having this pointed out, you've misunderstood sensitivity with boredom at your naive posts. You put me on ignore!
Fans are just happy to see a young player have his chance and impress, and I agree it was a tad premature to talk about him replacing lennon, but I said that at the start of this thread itt had no real basis, as Townsend is a good talent but doesn't offer the same overall quality as Lennon and possibly never will. Todays comment on Townsend are based on the game, Chadli was good for 10 minutes, the first 10 minutes and done nothing for the rest of the game, never tracked back, while Townsend was the one trying to drive forward and was more dangerous, so to take Townsend off was bad management.
It's all about opinions Boss but I saw it differently. Townsend was wasting chances with pot shots when a pass might have been more effective so taking him off was reasonable IMO. But I don't want to be harsh on Townsend who has tried to be positive in an often negative format, I think (and hope) it's just the lack of understanding between players atm. The one that confuses me is Dembele who looks as though he does not have a clue what his role is. That is a management problem surely?
Take a leaf out of boss' book notso. He said virtually the same as you but backed it up with reason (thats how discussions work) and he has persuaded me that maybe i was a bit rash and at times AVBs naivity costs us and maybe it was harsh to say people had turned on avb - maybe the right way to put it is ppl are suddenly more vocal now that we arent winning. Maybe if you bothered to post something other than a childish, whiney post about the 'tone' of my post, that had some substance like boss' I might be more inclined to come round to your way of thinking. The one with the attitude here is you and you seem to just be sat at your keyboard waiting to start a fight.
I agree about Dembele - first half of last season he was my favourite player by a long way but seems to have lost his way completely. He doesn't sit deep but doesn't fully commit to attacks - he just seems to hover around the centre circle not doing a lot, or bursting 10 yards forwards then turning to pass it 15 yards back again!
Disagreement is what it's all about there is no point of a forum where we all agree is there. Nobody needs to be upset because people disagree with their views it's not a beauty contest.
I think so and my own take on it, is that Dembele is being played out of position and isn't a central midfielder. He only started playing as a central midfielder when he moved to Fulham, before that he was a striker and Hughes converted him to a CM, as he saw qualities that would work there (which they do in short spells) but Dembele just doesn't have the natural game to play in midfield, which I reckon is why he sometimes looks awesome, then goes missing but his best play comes in short bursts. Short bursts are typical of a striker, not do much for certain periods and then all of a sudden burst into life, or wander about waiting for the ball and then burst into action. That is Dembele. Can't imagine him as a striker? similar to Heskey in goal ratio LOL
You were unlucky. Does it not worry you that you haven't scored from open play yet? Can see you being a threat once Eriksen, Lamela etc. have settled in
Hey there Have been lurking a bit. Mostly following the Swans but saw the match today. I always liked Spurs. Good flow and well paced. And I understand why people feel a bit discouraged after tonights match. But I'm 100% sure that Spurs soon will return to their former self and possibly even stronger. Being from Denmark I however watch a trend here that I find alarming. The notion that the likes of Eriksen and Lamela will suddently change everything by simply walking on to the pitch. I've only followed Eriksen the past couple of years but I guess this applies to both of them seeing they are both 21 year old (and never played in EPL). Eriksen is the kind of guy that is heavily influenced by the performance of his team. He's not old enough to take initiativ and responsibility when his team underperforms. I guess it's one of the reason why he's been quite anonymous in most matches on the national team. I guess what I'm saying. Don't put too much pressure on the young lads. It will only lead to dissapointment. They might get there but I think it will take a while. (Based on peoples high expectations, I fear a Eriksen bashing coming up after his debut)
Oil......................I was well oiled with red wine. Or perhaps I didn't log off, I had a not 606 window open in the background. I wondered where all you guys were, I though the cnuts have all got tickets to the Emiriods without letting me know . Some tosser of a goon managed to log on to take the piss about me taking to myself because he couldn't put up a sensible argument regarding my comments on the match.
A horrible bitter defeat but it's only one game. Arsenal offered more threat and deserved their one nil victory. AVB has to drop Dembele as he offers so little. A creative player is a must to service Roberto . Dawson against quick attacking teams should not play. Is Rose good enough at this level ? Walker,s final attacking pass is even worse than Lennon's delivery. Tactic's should be more varied , not everything down the wings and central midfield just bludgeoning itself against the opposition. Early days , don't panic, time will tell. Chin up Sid
Spurcat: Lloris and near post again, despite him having a really good game is there a concern? Is it positioning or what? I don't understand the ins and outs of goalkeeping but since you raised the issue, it is beginning to concern me.
