Now, you discuss this however you like and everyone can get there own stats. However for me, the Carroll £35m may be ridiculous, but the world record Bale fee (yet to be confirmed) is every bit more ridiculous.

One had a good half season in the league and the other had about 7 games.
One is English and the other is W****.
One has won a trophy and the other gets awards for not even being the best player in the league (and no trophies).

Now, I must state, I am completely jealous. Jealous of Madrid madly spending all that money on him and not throwing it as us instead.

Bale is a very good player and still young so I can see why he is so highly rated, not worth the money but is anyone? Transfer fees a crazy. Carroll was never going to live up to that fee, as much as I think he'll improve over the years he will never go for that kind of fee again. We ****ed up!

Torres. though didn't Chavski claim that they more than made that up in shirt sales? Aren't Madrid saying they'll do likewise with Bale shirts?

A lot of people think that so many new players would be more of a problem for Spurs.

They've basically bought a new team by selling last year's team. :bandit:

Bale, easily. Carroll was ridiculous but we were sort of desperate, Real aren't.

****ing hard decision - presumably Real are planning to shirt acres of Bale shirts. I don't think Real have done the maths or logic tests.

With Ronaldo, you have an internationally renowned player from a football-mad culture (population of 10 million) who keys into another football-mad culture (Brazil - pop. of 200million), while with Bale you have a player who will never go to a world cup in a playing capacity from a rugby mad culture of 3 million who have little or no interest in Football.

Real will be hoping to make Bale a star, but if they can't, I just don't see how the figures will add up?

    There's that but I don't even think he's that special a player.

My thought on Bale is that he's generally (in cricket terms) a bit of a flat track bully who has gone missing in high pressure games...

not all of them, but enough to question his quality.

To me all he's got going for him is the game against Inter.

Never ever believed I would see the Ronaldo fee broken, 85 million is shocking for Bale, Levy will laugh himself to sleep tonight but fair play. Only time will tell what fee is more ridiculous, if he is a complete flop then obviously it will be Bale's.

Gareth Bale without doubt when you factor in the £300,000 per week in wages, maybe even without that.

I'm sure he would have taken less than £150,000 had Real kept the offer low.

You're right on this and I hope he is, tbh, maybe it would be a reality check for the transfer market then.
