Amen to that. In august 3 years ago, we lost 2-0 at home to Rochdale. There was much gnashing of teeth then too, but we still got promoted that season.
Well most of us had this down for a draw so we expected a close game. In the end Norwich deserved it if for no other reason than their defending was top drawer. Many have commented on us looking toothless in front of goal but I lost count of the crucial tackles Norwich made - quite outstanding. If I had a negative comment to make it would probably be that we had no real pace in the side with Clyne and Rodriguez starting from The bench. Also I would have liked to see cork on the bench as he gives another creative option in the middle of the park. That said pochettino knew what was doing and it nearly came for him. Had we had any other ref - including a blind one- we would have had a penalty in the first half and the discussions tonight would be very different indeed.
Yeah, I was out so am probably less frustrated. I've seen some people elsewhere really going for Poch's throat. It's the third game. The way I see it at current, I didn't really understand the changes or the interview but everyone has crap days at work.
Tbf, I'm not actually sure they would be. I know that I'm not particularly fussed at result, and by the sounds of not nor are many people. At the end of the day I would say that us and Norwich are roughly on par with each other season - two comfortable mid table sides, who with a bit of a luck and an injury-free season might just replicate what WBA did last season. So narrowly losing away to them does not fuss me. If anything, result wise the Sunderland draw annoys me more. So had the penalty been given, and we'd drawn the game - or we'd even narrowly won - I suspect I'd still be feeling the same. I'm disappointed at having not signed a winger, slightly concerned about having not scored from open play in three games now (and not really created a mass a good chances), and slightly concerned about our slow build up play. Winning 1-0 today rather than losing 1-0 wouldn't have masked that, for me.
Last seasons form has nothing to do with anything regarding this season, that's in the past. 3 games into a new season and we have played well for alot of it, defended very well, and kept possession excellently and created a fair few chances. There is no doubt in my mind that the quality of our attacking players isn't up to scratch, Pochettino just has to find the best formation and tactics for all of the new faces to slide into an already successful side. When Shaw and Clyne play they give so much width to our game, which sadly was severely lacking at Norwich. No knee jerk reactions needed at all, the quality is there for all to see, we just need things to start clicking then we'll be well away
Obviously much less important to the outcome of the match, but Norwich should have had a penalty at the end there too imo. And Fonte would have been sent off.
Yep I totally agree. Had my head in my hands as I thought it was a nailed on penalty and a red card. Shocked nothing was given. Dreadful from Webb.
So, Everton have also faced WBA and Norwich. Two points for them, three for us. They also played Cardiff, whilst we played Sunderland. A point each there. Anyone else feel Martinez won't do well at Everton or is it just a matter of time?
It's going to be difficult to continue the success Moyes had there (i.e finishing 6th), and he is trying to change their playing style with possession football and good link up play. I think he is an excellent manager, and so long as the club and fans give him time, they can still have a positive season. Probably 8th would be considered a success for them this season.
That really is utterly, utterly absurd. Should Pellegrini have gone last week as well? Moyes should have been sacked pre-season and Wenger after the first day.
Just looked at the Saintsweb reactions and they're lunatics. You know what amuses me, had we come away with a perfectly feasible (and fair) point from that game, everybody would have said "well we didn't play well, but we still ground out a draw. Sign of a good team that....."
We just need to convert our chances and a bit more luck. Some-one is going to get a thrashing when it comes together!
We were saying someone was going to get a thrashing at the start of last season when we were playing well but not getting results. Then along came Villa and we thumped them. Hopefully something similar will happen against West Ham. They do have the same club colours.......
