there's been rumours that we're still in for 2-3 players, with 1 being a very special player. I wonder if there's any legs in the Mata deal? It seems soooo unlikely, but it's clear Mourinho isn't keen. Deadline day might just have one more surprise in store.
I wonder if we could encourage Mata to put in a transfer request? Might be worth some of our players making some cheeky noises in that direction. Or, perhaps we're going to get Benzema or Di Maria? Cannot see either of those wanting to go to the Gunners, what with their depleted squad.
your lack of transfer window activity has baffled me to be honest. it's very difficult to word this properly to not sound like i'm wumming, which i'm not. - But I genuinely think you guys have punched slightly above your weight and failed, when there were much more realistic players who would have improved you. The biggest problem you have at the moment is ambition, HG. - There's not been much sign of it for a little while. Although we didn't qualify for the CL, our club has gradually been getting a name for itself recently. We're in the middle of an exciting project that players want to be part of. I can't quite pinpoint what it is with you guys, but for some reason the big names just don't want to join you. They are all opting for other clubs. In the mean time, we've cleaned up, by purchasing some new first teamers, as well as deepening/improving our squad. I don't understand why you're chasing players like Ozil, Benzema, Di Maria etc (if rumours are true). You're asking them to leave real madrid, where they are first team players, at a club who win things regularly.
Serge need a new stylist imo. A suit jacket pulled over a heavy twill cardigan (buttoned up wrong too).
If Ozil, Benzema and Di Maria won't join us, they won't want to join Arsenal, for several reasons. Firstly - and yes, I know that Arsenal have CL footy - but the top players will have done their research and will know that Arsenal are only in the CL to make up the numbers, and never do anything with it. Like a lot of teams, AFC's presence in the CL is like padding. No top class player is going to want to be part of a club lacking such ambition and drive. Secondly, these top players will have noticed that Arsenal's star is very much on the wane, and has been for some considerable time. The club's days are numbered, as far as being perennial top 4 contenders is concerned, and I think the top players can smell the blood. Again, why would any top player want to leave Real to join Arsenal? The only reason I can think of is to use it as a stepping-stone to United, Barca or City (ala RVP, Fabregas, and Nasri).
Apparently Tom Carroll has joined Ajax on a season loan. What a move for him, I presume that was an agreement with Ajax to get Eriksen. There aren't many places better to go for a young midfielder with good technical ability, he'll develop brilliantly there. Ajax fans are superb as well so he'll not only enjoy the way they play but the atmosphere too.
Amazing news. A shame we won't see him this season, but a fantastic opportunity for Carroll. To be playing in the CL against Barca and AC milan must be an absolute dream.
Absolutely mate. Good news for me as well as I watch Ajax regularly anyway, hoping to get tickets for the PSV game again, so if I do, hopefully I'll see Tommy Carroll live running the show out there lol.
Think he'll be the first Englishman in the Eredivisie in years that plays for a top club, the only one now is Higdon at NEC, but he's in last place on the table.
Doubt it though as he is down in the pecking order behind Schöne and Siem de Jong. Ajax is low on CM, not AM's so if he develops in a way Frank de Boer likes, he might have a shot.
Wow what a move for Carrol. I think that is fantastic news for him (and hopefully for Ajax) and hopefully he will get game time, develope technically and physically and push for a first team place next year.
Latest from Benny: Benoit Assou-Ekotto ‏@AssouEkotto 17m Time for me to go in france ... I ll wotch my team behind my tv best luck ! COYS i think it's safe to say he's signed for someone.
What does the arrival of Lamela and the form of Townsend spell for Lennon as they both seem to prefer to play on the right?
Ajax is my team in Europe. I visited their wonderful stadium about three years ago with my eldest son, and we both still have the team shirt. Great opportunity for Carroll, and superb news for Spurs, too. Let's hope we can do more of these "partnering" deals with the mighty Ajax.
