  2. Next doors cats (they have two) do similar. There is a metal gate between the two of us that both the dog and cats can see through, the cats sit a yard the others side doing the exact same thing. My dog goes crazy and has nearly got over the fence a couple of times.

He's actually had hold of one of the cats twice when its been on our garden, fortunately the mrs spotted it both times so it lived <laugh>

He would have been tied up for 10hrs a day during the week and fencing just wasn't possible. I think the farmer also demanded some guarantee that it wouldn't happen again. Either way my parents wouldn't stand for any silliness, they were old school and showed little compassion for pets. We had a cat that would not stop putting it about and before we had the chance to get her neutered she had a litter that my mother simply put in a sack and dropped in a barrel of water.

We hoped and prayed for the dog but at the end of the day we didn't have much say in the outcome, we came home from school one day and he was gone. We had a few dogs since but he was one we'd never forget.

Cats are OK but I love dogs, I just can't have one yet until I know it will be looked after properly.

So the farmer lost £2,000 from the dead lambs and the ewe's who aborted.... on current prices that means the farmer technically owes the dog owner money because a Husky and German Shepard are worth more than £2,000. As he said, once done they cannot be stopped, same can be said of farmers mind you, once they kill pets they too cannot be stopped... take out his sheep dog, it'll make him think twice.

    Some touching stories here.

One thing that does amaze me though, reading through the thread, is the level of violence some would [supposedly] go to in their abhorrence of the original violent act. Doesn't make sense. Reminded me of all the talk around the Suarez/Evra stuff. People were far more obnoxious in their response to it than the original 'crime' itself!

Yes, my stance is an hysterical overreaction. That said, so was the farmer's (and several other tales in the past year of farmers doing the same - anyone remember the one who shot the two collies without warning that had escaped from the commercial dog kennels in the next field?), and the guff about aborting ewes and worried lambs was not supported by one iota of evidence, nor was it first mentioned when the prick was first asked if he'd seen the dogs.

  18. My stance is purely based on scary folks from doing bad ****. If they REALLY don't like the resulting punishment from a act of inhuman activity then surely they would be less likely to do it in case they are caught? Prison is not and has not been a deterrent for many many years! In fact, I reckon some people do naughty things so that they can go to jail, to get away from normal every day simple pressures such as paying bills!
