Hooray..! Excellent. I'm really pleased for him. Wish it had been for a southern based team, but never mind, he's back in football. Best wishes Deano and thanks for being a great Saints captain. Never to be forgotten.
A good defender he will serve you well. He did a good job down at Brighton last year where he spent the season on loan. I don't think he missed many games either! I am surprised they didn't sign him but I guess that is more to do with the manager leaving than Hammonds ability.
Does the simple stuff and is underrated, IMO. Isn't blessed with pace and skill, but a good tackler and will get stuck in, retains the ball well and a good crosser.
Sounds like Matt Oakley before he went downhill I think we have been crying out for someone like him for sometime as we are even brilliant or useless. We need more reliable performers and at times were too nice to play against
All the best to Deano, terrific for us in our promotion winning seasons and the rebuilding season in League One. Great professional and leader. Can't help but feel that the club could have treated him with a bit more respect in his final days at the club. Thanks for the memories Dean and good luck at Leicester.
Huh? He asked Adkins to go on loan last season, we obliged. Brighton didn't come back in, we waited for an acceptable offer, when it came we accepted and allowed him to move on. I think Cortese liked Hammond and his role and therefore has done nothing of the sort.
Looking back through the Saints archives from his transfer, there are plenty of highlights where Deano is being solid in midfield, or being the man in defence who makes that last tackle or clearance. Not only is he a good defensive midfielder, he is an excellent leader too. And occasionally will pop up with goals against Leeds, which can't be bad. Difficult to believe this is 2 years ago:
Difficult to believe because it wasn't less than 2 years ago. That was the 6th of August 2011. Today is the 30th of August 2013.
We know nothing about it internally, and shouldn't pretend to. He didn't get a shot at the PL and as our captain for 3 seasons, 2 of which ended in promotion, I think he deserved more respect than what he got. All just my opinion. Think he is a good guy.
I think we showed him respect. He was on the bench, as was S. Davis. Behind Jack and Morgan - as he should have been. He then requested a move. I'm not understanding this. He'd get absolutely nowhere near Morgan, Victor, Jack, James, Gaston etc now.
How do you mean respect? If you think he should have been given a crack at the first team, then that'd be a bit daft.
I am not saying he would, far from it. I understand now in modern football that people are brought in to reach short term goals, and there isn't much loyalty. I would have just liked to have seen him given more of a chance at the start of last season because he played such a big part in our rise back to the top flight. I'm not blaming Poch, but he has left without playing a game for us in well over a season. If he was surplus, we should have sold him last summer. Anyway, a top captain and consistent performer for us. I'm sure we all agree on that.
