Massive dilemma, I put water in my kettle this morning about 9AM, I have had two mighty big cuppa's out of it but I just now reboilled it and I am wondering, just how long should water be left to stand? This could be the difference between an ukky tea or 30p of electricity wasted.
Not sure on this one, bit tricky, think you'd better ask Vetch our resident Oracle............................
Damn, I am going to need the answer fast Dragon, or I will have to reboil again and still have a stale tea
An "oracle" is "any person believed to indicate future action with infallible authority". Crikey,Dragon, what can I say? As regards the water dilemma,as long as it's not exposed to bacteria, dirt, etc.,the water should be drinkable ad infinitum. It doesn't go off like milk,or flat, like beer/wine. But then you already knew that.
The type of material it's made from The enviroment it's in. The role of said piece of string, there are so many variables with so many conclusions to make
The experts say that you should only ever boil a kettle once, as you are distilling the water. So use fresh water for every cup. Saying that I don't use all the water up, and if you have a tenage son shout at the bugger to fill the kettle up as they think it fills itself, thus buring the elements out.
Never - wtf do experts know - there is a fecking shortage of drinking water and they want us to throw it away ( not here in Cananda - largest supply of fresh water) - much more relevant to the question is which tea bags do you use - (can't get good ones here so I broght 480 typhoo back with me Tuesday)
I have since bad two more cuppa's, the first was below par and tempered only by an excess of sugar that left a slithery film upon my mouth. The water was a little stale, the second cuppa was used to wash my mouth out with fresher water. Six hour old water is surprisingly horrible in tea, it doesn't seem so bad when you wake up half way through the night and drink it straight. I did however make the differently, the first was milk then water but the second was water then milk. That might have been the difference between a good old brew and a bad one.
you should always use fresh water for every pot or cup of tea... Its the individual choice but i would always use fresh water....
ProjectVRD, you must boil the water fresh for tea, never use a tea bag! Tea must be made with loose leaves in a tea pot which has been suitably warmed. It must be poured into china cups or mugs and milk and sugar added. To make tea any other way is uncivilised and definitely not the done thing.
Oh one other thing, you lucky gits have nice soft water. Down south we get that bloody horrible hard chalky water, it doesn't half bugger up the kettle.
Never though I would hear foottball fans having a discussion about how to make a pot of tea What about a cover for the pot.................
