Nothing would suprise me about Chelsea. Saying that, they still haven't confirmed the signing of Lamela. I thought that was a certainty?
I agree with this - when this sort of big transfer comes up everything gets blown out of all proportion by completely OTT and most fictional press reporting. There must have been many discussions between Bale, his agent, Real and Spurs and its easy to see how one side might see 'broken promises' while another thinks they are sticking to what has been agreed
I'm reserving my judgment on Bale, though I actually feel like condemning him for missing training. IMO, "going on strike" as he's done is utterly reprehensible. But if he does nothing else I don't like, I may weigh it against all the good things he's done while here and find it forgivable eventually. No doubt, though, I had thought he was a very nice young man, and do not any longer.
who ever said they would remember Bale for being a dick not for what he did for the club? Ill always remember him (like berbatov and modric) for he way get played and all 3 are spurs legends in my eyes. But all 3 including Bale acted like twats. If you honestly think Bale's actions (refusing to train and play) are acceptable you need your head checking. At the minute - he's a twat. My best mate has had moments where I hate him and think he's a twat, because he was. Doesn't mean I forget all the good stuff. Defending Bale when he HAS disrespected the club AND the fans is ridiculous.
Not for a moment condoning his actions by missing training. However very few of us really know what is going on and I have read some very passionate condemnations and defences of Bale -until we get told the real story a few here should chill a bit. Everything we are hearing and reading is not officially from the club, even AVB's confusing press conference told us very little.

What I'm bothered about is 1) where's Real's money? 2) if it doesn't materialise, will people who've slagged Bale off, suddenly think he's great again, if he has to stay. To me, Bale is in all my all-time Spurs XI and he's staying there. He hasn't gone for nothing like a certain player once did, he's funded half a team for us.
Also worth mentioning I would cheer Bale if we drew Madrid in a cup, not boo him - but his actions recently are very disrespectful.
I'd be delighted if he stayed as long a he apologised and got his head down and played, I think £90m is crazy money for him as he isn't THAT good. But he's easily one of the best players in PL currently so would love him to stay.

Wages would be insane and rather Erikson but if Erikson falls through I'd take him as a last resort. Maybe try a cheeky 'throw in Kaka & bale is yours by the end of today' lol
Bale did wonderful things on the pitch for us and has given us all some great memories. His transfer also looks to have provided us with what could become one of the best squads in the league. He is the finest player I have ever seen play in the flesh, in a Spurs shirt or not, and he has been an absolute joy to watch these past few years. But that doesn't change the fact that refusing to train and play, if that is what has indeed happened, is wrong. Nobody can take the memories of the good times he gave us away and we shouldn't ever forget them but I don't care who he is and how good he is at football, he is under contract and he shouldn't be refusing to play or train regardless of what his agent or Real Madrid is telling him. JPG if he ended up staying now I for one would look on him differently. I have always admired his talent and respected him as a person who seemed to be quiet, low-key and a complete departure from what you expect from the modern footballer. But IF he has gone on strike then that changes that view I had of him. I would still cheer him and chant his name but he wouldn't be the golden boy any more. AVB confirmed bale was meant to be at training and didn't show. The actual 'leaving' isn't the issue it's the way he's tried to force it that is.
maybe i misunderstood you a bit then Jam. There are a lot of fans who wont give berbatov or modric the time of day now, and it looks to me like some fans are putting bale in the same bracket. if you're just saying that you're pissed off about it at the moment but in the long run you're not that fussed, then that's a different matter. personally though, i still dont see how not turning up to training is being disrespectful to the fans. were people planning to go down and watch him train or something ? he hasnt done it to piss the fans off, he's done it because he's been advised that it's the best course of action to ensure that the transfer goes through. personally, i don't see what it's got to do with us at all.
Agreed PL. To me I'd love Bale to stay, and a missed training session doesn't affect that one iota, given the circumstances. I'll be cheering him like crazy if he plays v Norridge.
I'm a little pissed about Modric still but Berba I will always love, I'd take both back and keep bale in a heartbeat. I don't mean he directly insulted the fans like watching him train. I more mean when he was ****e / on his losing run we got behind him, when he was accused of diving we backed him. I'm more upset that he has insulted the club (it's not like we are going to be fighting relegation and he has a lot of years left on his contract so to go on strike is a bit disloyal considering the faith the club showed in him) I think what I'm trying to say is he disrespected the club by breaking his contract and not turning up for training or playing in our early games. Us fans are part of that club and in turn he is respected the people (fans) that have been fairly loyal to him through his good and bad seasons.
I strongly suspect that Bale and his people are well aware that a deal with Real has already been agreed and that the papers are lying on Levy's desk waiting to be signed. Naturally, Bale would rather be in Spain training with his new team-mates and cannot see the point in joining up with the Spurs squad merely to go through the pretense that a deal might, in fact, not be done (so that Levy can complete his outstanding deals without being fleeced). Bale is probably a little bit unhappy that he, having done all the right things, is now being dicked around by the club. I can fully understand that. I'd be pissed-off, too, if I was Bale.
I think you have hit the nail on the head HIAG. I think it's all a cover story as we are waiting until the last minute to do the Bale deal so our rivals can't strengthen on the back of it.
