Nice, quality openeing post on the thread red .................... informing the forum of what meetings are happening. Should be the minimum standard each day IMHO
A small double on 2 shorties, but i think that they will oblige... 4.50 Chester - Llewellyn, 11/8 5.00 Thirsk - Alegra, 5/4 Good luck to all today...
I fancy Conserve to get off the mark in the 2.30 at Chester today - very impressed with her run last time out behind Ostaad
Nothing for me today, other than to wish the forum well with selections today and over the weekend. Off to see my beloved play Pompey tomorrow and then at Silverstone on Sunday for the MotoGP. Stay lucky!
Elsewhere in the news we have a fixture planning for Good Friday proposed by Arena Racing Company... Lifted from the Racing Post... Trainers wary of plans for Good Friday fixtures BY BILL BARBER 6:30PM 29 AUG 2013 PLANS revealed on Wednesday to stage racing on Good Friday next year, including a £1 million fixture at Lingfield, met with a robust defence of the status quo by the National Trainers Federation. Arena Racing Company, which owns Lingfield, has proposed the Good Friday date as the culmination of a series that it hopes will rejuvenate Britain's all-weather racing programme. Musselburgh has also expressed a desire to race on one of only four blank days in the British racing calendar while a third course has also been suggested as being interested. The fixture would clash with popular open days at Middleham and Lambourn while other racing groups have noted their concern at the possibility of more racing. Rupert Arnold, chief executive of the NTF, said: "Our main position is we'd prefer not to see racing on Good Friday. We'd prefer to see an alternative with the additional money they would like to put into the all-weather programme - which is something we support - able to happen without sacrificing Good Friday." The BHA board will meet to discuss the proposal next week before a final decision is made at the end of next month. There is a poll currently on going with the RP and its speaking volumes at the mo.. Are you in favour of racing on Good Friday? Yes:39% No:61% Login Please login to cast your vote Probably not got the enthusiasm that it wanted, but no doubt they will plough ahead and do it anyway... What's the consensus of the NOT606'ers...? I'm not against it, but with Easter moved around all the time, surely it will cause some problems wouldn't it...???
I can't hit a barn door at the moment so you can all put a line through Vicksberg in the 2:30 at Chester! Improved markedly and wasn't beaten out of site in a very strong race lto with Cushion and Songbird in front. It's not personal Oddy, I promise!
Morning fellow followers nice opening red I'm glad I didnt get time thismorning ! I really like the look of a few today so much so I backed them all in singles as the opened at good odds ew as per , then went back in with some structured betting thismorning when I could get the best value. King of eden 7s Chester 3 Picansort 16s Sandown 250 Bousaten 3s thirsk 555 Westleak hare 11s thirsk 525 Miss tigerlilly 4s thirsk 450 And one to oppose reds partner 20s thirsk 450 (be warned I have not checked to make sure this has 4 legs) All studying was done before any markets opened these are my opinions which is why I have left the rank outsider in . The odds I have put up are from now the odds I took where better if they all place I apologise I have my holiday head on and am running round like a headless chicken , I think I should have left the studying lol. Good luck all as usual And from tomorrow morning SUN SUN SUN HERE I COME Sorry for that cruel I no
With regard to Good Friday racing, I think this will turn out to be an ill-conceived notion as the fact that it is a Bank Holiday will not attract hoards of racegoers because Friday is always a poorly attended day the other fifty-one weeks of the year. Take a look at the Ebor meeting at York: on which day was Tanya reporting a lack of liquidity in the market because of the low attendance? Something else that Racing For Change chose to ignore when moving meetings like York and the Newmarket July meeting to have big race Saturdays. Those of us that have planned to go to Sandown tomorrow, expecting to see next year’s Guineas winner Kingman face a tough race in the Solario Stakes are very disappointed that just four are going to post and it may turn out to be little more than a penalty kick against two decent Godolphin horses. At least the Atalanta Stakes looks like a competitive race but no surprise that the rest of the bookmaker-sponsored card is made up of trappy handicaps. Hoping that Gosden will get the weekend off to a good start with Breden in Esher but at 13/8 all I will be doing is watching as it should not be that short in quite a competitive heat.
An interesting runner for SEA THE STARS at Sandown this afternoon: MARAAYILL makes his debut for Marco Botti having cost €520,000 at the Arqana Breeze Up Sale. His pedigree is not stellar, his dam being a Listed winner and a full-sister to Irish Derby third ROOSEVELT, but he is installed as favourite for the race and it will be interesting to see whether he can justify his price tag. On the Good Friday racing issue I'm firmly in the "No" camp. There are only 4 blank racing days per year and many courses, and indeed bookmakers, do not seem to take into account that someone needs to prepare these horses to go racing, take them, look after them and travel home again with them. The stable staff get little enough thanks as it is without having one of their few quiet days taken away from them. If ARC have £1million to spend on a bumper day's racing, why not spend it on the Saturday, or better still improve the quality of their existing racing first?
Completely in the NO camp with regard Good Friday, we have too many days racing already and surely we don't need to race every day, personally I would limit Sunday Meetings as the standard is very often poor and the point made by Princess about the stable staff a good one. We need start valuing the product again rather than diluting it ever further.
I'm also in the No camp although since I spend most of GF in church I probably wouldn't notice if racing took place or not. Nothing excites today as yet although Killarney stage a cracking h'cap 'chase later this evening, the favourite being trained by the great Jim Dreaper...astonishing to believe in has only trained 19 winners in Ireland in the last 5 years. Off for a more in depth analysis of this race. GL all. Chicken and ****ing sweetcorn sandwich.
Right, that's the tea made for later, a nice looking home made lasagne, with garlic bread... Now to have a lazy hour or so watching the racing... Greed is Good @ Thirsk up next...
Nice one Red, stick these up mate... 2:50 Sandown - Wooden King 5/1 3:00 Chester - Verse Of Love 9/1 3:35 Chester - Phaenomena 7/1 3:55 Sandown - Brownsea Brink 8/1 Cheers
