I feel you are looking in the wrong direction, keep Powell and hope that the owners sell up.

I think we a really missing Ricardo Fuller, his Premiership experience was vital and he played some good games for us, but also he seemed to have a good influence in the dressing room and seemed to be popular by the other players. Think we missed a trick not giving him a second year.

I think the problems lie in defence and midfield.Morrison,Wiggins,Dervite and Solly have started the season poorly. In midfield we are desperately short of a creative midfielder who can weigh in with a number of goals.Juan Mata is not doing anything at the moment.

Agree with this Ted. At his position, I don't think there's anyone to touch him - how Chelsea can think of using him as a makeweight in some mega-deal or other completely defeats me.

    I like this place :)

Virtually the whole squad was changed two years ago and something similar appears to be happening in the back office...

A few more games to go before anyone can rate this squad for this season with perhaps the board bringing in one or two loan players? So I'm looking forward to Leicester and then let's see what September brings

CP said in his press conference he doesn't expect any new signings before Monday. But his press conference was held before Hollands went out..

Blimey Vol, touchy! So do I. It's just that in my opinion Powell has done nothing to warrent a sacking. I'd love to know who you think we'd get for the money we've got as a replacement.
Also the most successful times in our history have been as a result of periods of stability.

So how long would you give him now?

Get a grip haters. Name anyone better (realisticly!) to get us through this season.

So do I, but you have to recognise the success that CP has bought with a very little budget.
The comments on here about who you would replace him with are very apt. I know that you would opt for our academy director, but I think that could be a backward step.
Stability in management over the longer term has also brought stability in performance and greater success. You only have to look at Fergie's first couple of seasons to recognise that. Wenger has consistently over performed without spending a fortune and yet there are people calling for his head. I for one will not be calling for Powell's head, since I think he has proven himself to be a capable manager but one who recognises there is always something to learn. Much better than the likes of Dickov or Freedman who believe they know it all, and we are unlikely to be able to afford the current top flight of this world.
Far better to invest in one who will be top flight given time rather than chop and change - if we haven't learned from history we are doomed to repeat the mistakes.

I have got no complaints about Powellyesterday. It was back to the team spirit of last season. Maybe Jimizez went into the dressing room before the game, and waved some £20 notes in the air ? Who knows, but it was certainly a 100% improvement. Hamer still looks very vulnerable. Any money freed up by Hollands is needed to sign an experienced back up keeper.

Hamer does indeed still look vulnerable to tripping over his bottom lip. He doesn't take being beaten very well which is always admirable, but his way of doing this is to heap blame on the defence which at least 50% of the time is unjustified. He has to get his head together and understand that it is sometimes his own fault and he has to bite his tongue and improve. Not certain whether Pope will be allowed to challenge for a position this season and therefore a back up keeper of higher order is required, not many available that are of the quality we need with a degree of youth on their side.

Can't comment on previous games, but it was clear yesterday that team spirit was 100%, and you can't ignore The Doctor's role in fostering it. Remember what it was like when he took over? He actually had to order the players to start celebrating scoring a goal, and I'm not making this up. I suspect that Sordell has paid the price for not buying into the Charlton work ethic, and I take Eddie's point about a possible early return.

He's been awful every time he's played, seems completely off the pace, and people were more excited bout Sordell than they were Church <steam>

    @ TED, Billy

I remember listening to a piece on the radio about Sordell after he was called up by Team GB for the Olympics. Someone said that Sordell had a poor reputation within the game. I am pretty sure it was related to attitude.

Anyone who wants rid of Powell is deranged. He knows what he is doing, has not long been a manager so is still improving, has nothing but love for the club and its fans, and is the most model professional any club could ask for. I am actually gobsmacked anyone could even suggest he should maybe be shown the door, absolute madness
