What is he on? Osvaldo has played part of a game...too soon to make rash judgements. We have signed quality not quantity because we already had a good team. Mauricio probably does know his best team, but, like us, must be puzzled sometimes why we can't score more from all our chances.
Fran, he didn't say that, Al is twisting his words. He actually said: "I'm not sure Mauricio Pochettino knows his best XI yet and has to decide where record signing Dani Osvaldo fits in". He also said: They've come up from the Championship and have really strengthened in two years, the quality of players they are attracting now is very impressive". So what he said is very fair to me.
I'm not saying people will deliberately misinterpret what he's saying, but that even someone as fluent as AVB has been criticised for his use of English by using unfamiliar idioms from Portuguese which seem to him like they should make sense in English but sound unfamiliar to our ears, for example. This kind of commentary is actually surprisingly common from our halfwit journalists (few if any of whom are as competent in a second or third language of course), for example: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...0/Andre-Villas-Boas-English-new-Ronglish.html And here's a slightly more sympathetic attempt to explain it: http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2012/dec/20/andre-villas-boas-avbinglish
Sorry I mistyped that, was meant to say have signed too many players, because he said he thinks we will struggle to fit them all in. I didn't twist them, the guy talks nonsense all by himself thanks.
Re: signing too many players. At the moment, we have 24 players in the senior squad, not including Stephens/Rowe/Sinclair/Reed who aren't expected to feature in the league in the near term, or the players we're trying to clear out (and who thus have not been named in the squad). That's actually a rather small squad by PL standards; when the U21 players are taken into consideration, we're likely to go into the year with 4-5 open spots in our 25-man squad.
That just makes me so angry. The arrogance of the Daily Mail never fails to astonish me. Thankfully, the The Guardian [and Observer, of course] balances out that pathetic tabloid.
I actually get quite frustrated when I see people reading and taking everything in The Sun, The Mail, or any newspaper for that matter, as gospel. Just typically more the Mail, the Sun etc. I know I shouldn't but...
Me too, those rags have a lot to answer for. They're nothing more or less than poisonous influences on society, doing far more damage than any of the ills they rail against.
I have this argument with my family often. My Dad will go "have you seen what was in the newspaper..." He then spills some load of propaganda fed to him through the rags that he reads and believes it all. When I try to balance it out or question it, his reply? "Well it's in the newspaper..."
To be honest I have a problem with all forms of news, whether it is via newspaper, TV, Radio, tickertape, you name it. The problem is informed comment. Our correspondent for this and that reports his/her political leaning.., whatever the subject. There is not a single topic in the World that, if it can be subjected to opinion, cannot be twisted slightly. But that's not the problem for me. I can easily put up with the reports. What I can't put up with is being spoon fed on what I'm supposed to think. And this is where the newspapers are most guilty because most of their pages are actually filled with comment, not reported news. However, TV, Radio, Internet is not immune to it. My answer is - report the news and let me make up my own mind.
Well, quite right. Whether it's the reporter's views, the subbie's views or the editor's views from on high - papers have political leanings. They have interests, contacts and sources to appease all at once. It's nowhere near as clear-cut as people would like to imagine.
Yep, pretty much all right wing drivel these days. I never read papers anymore, only care about the sport.
Really looking forward to this game. Norwich are set up perfectly to counter the way we play but I think we will beat them 2-0 with more clinical finishing being the difference. ------------Boruc Chambers--Fonte--Lovren--Shaw -----Wanyama-Schneiderlin -----JWP--Lambert--Lallana -----------Osvaldo------------ Fairly attacking line up, I don't expect to concede too many goals this season and we should be able to create a couple of goal scoring chances. Lambert and Lallana to score the goals. Remarkable that 7 of those starters were with us when we were in league 1. It's always different on game day but I have a really good feeling about this game and if Osvaldo can get a few chances I wouldn't be surprised if we destroy them.
I think that this season we may not get so many victories against top sides as we caught them a bit on the hop last season, but this will be counterbalanced by better results against teams around and below us. We like our style and believe in its success...the proof of the pudding may be this season. The team are all familiar with Mauricio's system (in fact they caught on pretty quickly) and, now we've had an injection of quality, I'm hoping for a good top ten season. We've started with a good 4 points, but I want us to turn our possession into more goals to make it easy for ourselves. The Sunderland match showed what can happen if the opposition get an early goal...we need to strike first and make them come out and play. Sometimes you just need luck for that...after all Lallana and JRod both had close offside goals. Need to start with Norwich to maintain momentum. Mustn't come out from this batch of 'easy' games without a cushion of points. Norwich will see this game in the same way. Very important for them to get points at home against a team that is not top six (well, last year anyway ). Let the battle begin.
I think that being frustrated with a single point from the Sunderland game is exactly the right attitude. We know we can - and thus should - be getting three points from that sort of game, and so that is absolutely the objective. Sure, there are positives to take from the Sunderland game, and these should only inform us and help us improve. Moving on to this weekend's game, I see no reason why we shouldn't be aiming for three points as we are more than capable of it. I think that this time it will pay off - 0-2 Osvaldo, Lambert.
we need to strike first and make them come out and play ______________________________ Could be crucial this weekend.
