People need to stop talking ****e and realise that it's hard to attract players to a corner of the NE where silverware is what you find in Chapmans.
It's also hard to flog some of the highly paid wasters we have on our books.

I was talking to a mate at Villa who was telling me why they couldn't sell Bent, an English international goalscorer, at any price.
This is a player who was last sold for 3 times the price of Fletcher.
At a time when clubs are desperate for strikers they couldn't attract a decent offer ........ it's not easy to buy or sell lads.

I believe the club are doing everything possible to 'change the squad' ............ but it's bloody hard work.

Totally agree mate if we do manage to get a top name in it'll be at the end of their career and for a payday. However if they play well while here I'd take that all day, still think we will see at least 2 new faces by Monday night. Don't know who mind.

the contracts nowadays are hugely complicated. its not like the olden days where it was just how much for how many years. im sure the guys are doing all they can and i would be surprised if we didnt get another 1 or 2

Damn right. I'm over the moon we've recognised the wage situation and now taking measures to sort it out. It will take a few windows to move some on and bring in everyone we need. The recruitment team will be all over the wages situation for incomings but they've got a tough job, loans will help while we wait on getting the right players in for the right wages and price.

If we get Sigurrdson I would be happy but an attacking midfielder any better than Sess is going to be hard to find in 4 days when we havnt been scouting one.

So we need a left back, Deep CM and attacking CM, should be an interesting 4 days my friend!

4 days isnt a long time to identify, convince to come to Sunderland (hardest part), agree fee.

Part of me thinks we should just bid £15 million for Lukaku haha

The only way we'll attract 'big money' players is to qualify for Europe and raise our profile.

At the moment, the only thing we have to offer is money.

The top European players won't come for a pre-season in Ireland and being knocked out of the cups by unknown teams.

As things stand the club is performing miracle in attracting the players we currently have.

MAybe this is why the club is looking at a younger generation and bringing them through the ranks? By the way I think we all know it's not easy :)

Our pre-season was spent in Italy and Hong Kong where we knocked Tottenham out of a friendly cup and lost to City in the final.

Nice of you to speak on behalf of the board, saves time I suppose.

The thing is that people do speak as if 'peddling' players and buying them is a piece of piss.

The fact that Villa have failed to sell Bent proves that it's a ****ing nightmare.

True. Lure of the premier league helps, not everybody can be in for everybody. There's a lot of talent chomping at the bit to play in this league. Di Fanti has been shrewd enough to target players who are either on reasonable wages already of playing in a league (Serie A) where wages on the whole are very low. Lets face it, we're not at the household name stage yet where only a checkbook can do the talking. Be interesting how we cope if we ever did reach that stage.

Cheers for the compliment regarding my intelligence. I've had a bad day and I needed that.

Sorry but what you said was wrong. I get that it was an exaggeration but it crossed the line from speaking generally to just speaking incorrectly. I agree that we need to step up to sign more quality but this pre-season shows we're attempting to; in terms of profile and the glamour of the club we've never looked as good as we currently do. Baby steps needed and baby steps seem to be being taken.

A Korean lad and an American superstar at the club help our global profile as well as our recent sponsorship deals. We're on the right track.

Signing the likes of Giac show we can get the players in and it's up to the scouting team to bring in more of the same when they can and up to Paolo to get them playing.
